We also took an e-loan check to the dealer and they beat the e-loan rate when we started talking to the financing guy. E-loan had the best rate going til we went to the dealer....

First thing, get your credit score from one of the big three credit agencies. This way, you know where you stand.

I used Lending Tree to get some quotes, then went to my local banks as well. I finally got a good rate off of one of the Lending Tree quotes, got that all set up to go. I then went to the dealership and told them to beat it if they wanted the money.

They did. 4.74%

I went through my local credit union, 3.9% for 72 months.

In oreder to use a credit union do you nothave to have had a previous relationship with that credit union?

You just have to have an account with them. I opened a small savings account about a month before my car came in, and after you get the loan if you close the terms if the loan stay the same. It is really easy, and I found out a good thing to have, their rates are lower than most banks on any kind of loan.
