I just talked to my dealer and he is confident that the arrival date of the new 05 is pushed back to late Oct/ early Nov. He didn't say anything about production and said he didn't know if production was to be delayed only that the arrival of the car will be delayed. Has anyone heard anything about this? He also told me the first batch of cars each dealer is getting (at least in Southern Calif where they like to rip us off) will be marked up 5k$ for the first 6 cars. After that 2,500K from MSRP. But this is a dealership markup because they are expecting it to sell and if they sell slow then he says expect it to drop back down to window price by the third batch. I am just relaying what he told me so if someone knows anything more substantial please let me know!

Refuse to pay over MSRP, this dealer is obviously crooked

Salesman: "So, normally when someone want to buy a car like this..."
(looks at four-square)
Salesman: "They have about $10,00 down... and..."
(looks at four-square)
Salesman: "Usually pay about $900 a month. So, how close can you come to this?"
Buyer: "Well, I have $2500 down."
Salesman: (With a look of pain on his face) "Ok, $2500 up to?"
My friend had a teacher at school who ened up with a down plus payments that equally about $40,000 on a Convertible Gt Mustang when all was said and done.

I suppose there will not be many discounts at first but you'd have to be a real idiot to pay any markup on a mainstream car that will have a production number of over 150.000 units in the first year alone...

Must be a California thing. Obviously there will be no mark-downs, but you shouldn't be paying a mark-up. I had my dealer confirm that I would get one of the first batch, as well as not pay above MSRP... in writing. Not that I will even pay MSRP... but definitely not paying over. And nobody should.

Well it's only common sense that greedy dealers will try to profit from emotional buyers. What's the rush? So you'll get the car a few months later. I am going to hang in until the stampede quiets down. Then with the money I'll save I'll get a Roush massaged stang!

Here in the Netherlands a dealer would lose it's dealership on the spot if they were to charge any markup. They are allowed to offer lousy trade in prices of course B)

Cali mark-ups are legendary around here
the first year Vipers were marked up an extra $50,000 (that's 2-4-1)
the first year (& second year in Walnut Creek) Miatas were selling for $40K-$50,000 -- maybe more buyers should pay attention to the D.A.R.E programs...LOL

What's worse is I went to price a corolla for my sister.....negotiated very well and they (salesman and sales manager) agreed to the price. I told them that my parents would be coming in the next day to write it up. When they came in, the Toyota sales manager told my father that he couldn't do it for that price and gave him much smaller discount.
I was furious let me tell you.
