Anyone have a laser jammer installed?
I'm thinking about getting a laser jammer for my 05 since most of the state police use them on the highway. Does anyone here have one? There are 2 models that I am looking at, there's the Escort ZR3 and the Blinder M20. I'm real interested in the Escort since it ties into my Passport 8500.
How do you have it installed? Where did you mount the emitters? Where did you mount the control box? What are your experiences?
Thanks!

I didn't think they worked....but I've also said it doesn't take a rocket scientist to pick out a car or truck travelling at 80mph+ on the highway. If you're clipping along faster than everyone else you're gonna get squeezed. Let's see, I've lost my license, been in the risk pool, paid hugely obscence insurance rates....all before I learned how to keep my eyes open, stay to the right as much as possible, and avoid being the leader of the pack. And I guess the V1 helps too!
Have you checked out this web site?

Not trying to start something, just thought the FDA in conjunction with the regulation of laser jammers was humorous.

Ok, but I looked through that and there doesn't seem to be anything regarding the regulation of public usage of lasers, most of it seems to pertain to ophthalmic surgery with the use of lasers.

The FDA regulates both medical and non-medical lasers. The FDA may inspect manufacturers of laser products and require the recall of products that don't comply with federal standards or that have radiation safety defects. The agency also may test laser products and inspect displays of laser light shows to ensure the public is protected.
Wondering as well
I have thought about this as well....but it is hard to justify spending them money and dealing with the potential headaches of an install.
So I am also curious...does anyone have first hand experience with these products?

MM&FF had a nice article on this several months ago. They installed a nice kit on there project ?Ice Box? (a white SN95 GT with a stalker body kit). Can't remember the system they used but it was very nice. Detected all ways of speed detection and jammed most. I'll have to see if I still have that issue laying around somewhere. I do remember that in the back the laser jammer was built into a tag frame, and the radar jammer was attached to the inside of the deck lid. I believe they tested it too in the article.
Here's the skinny on lasers......first of all they are illegal in many states, including my state, Oklahoma. These have been tested by numerous law enforcement agencies and they "kind of work." They aren't consistent. Numerous people have been picked up on radar when they were using their "jamming device." I haven't written a ticket in over 4 years since I went into the detective division, but when I was in patrol writing tickets, if I stopped someone with a radar detector...........I wrote them every ticket I could think of (just being honest) and most state police, city officers, and highway patrolman are the same way. Law enforcement looks at it like you are are a habitual speeder and you are using a device to get out of getting a ticket.
Another point someone brought up and I want to emphasize this - Officers don't need a radar to stop people. I didn't have a radar for about a year when we were changing over to a new brand of radar. During that time I probably wrote 15-20 speeding tickets without a radar. Officers can pace vehicles and we can also use training and experience to tell a judge that a vehicle was going at least 10, 15, or 20 miles over the posted speed limit. Officers can estimate speeds and write tickets accordingly. All they have to say in court is "based on my training and experience I estimated the defendants speed to be........." and most judges will take them at their word.
I was never a big ticket writer. I didn't like the city taking money away from hard working citizens. I probably gave 15-20 verbal warnings for every ticket I actually wrote. I only wrote tickets to deserving people, but like I said earlier, if you do get stopped and the officer sees the radar detector..........get ready to pay. Sorry guys, that's just the way it is.
Just remember if you are stopped....BE POLITE, DONT MAKE EXCUSES, HAVE YOUR RADAR DETECTOR HIDDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you have one, and DON"T, DON'T, DON'T SAY "LET ME SEE YOUR RADAR"......because contrary to popular belief officers don't have to show you the radar.
I know this was a bit off topic so I apologize, I was just trying to be informative. Hope it helps.
Back to topic - I wouldn't go spend $200-$400 or more on a radar detector/laser jamming device. Like I said it only works sometimes. Would you go spend $300-$400 or more on a CAI and tune if it was only going to work sometimes? I doubt it. To tell you the truth, I have somewhat of a lead foot. If I thought a radar/laser was worth it, I'd find a way to conceal one somewhere on my Mustang so it wouldn't be seen. I just don't have that much confidence in them. Save your money.
