Anyone gone BACK to stock shifter?

I've had the Hurst short throw shifter in since nearly when it first came out. I got this really weird bug in me today to switch back to the stock shifter for some reason. Maybe it's just the notchiness of it wearing on me? It's been 4 years or so, I can't see why it would be bothering me now. Maybe it was driving a friends 2010 GT500. I know that shifter is different than my OEM one, it was just longer throws and MUCH smoother.

Maybe I'll look into some options for something not so notchy that would allow me to use the OEM handle but still a fairly short throw? Anyone gone through this and went back to stock (to use, not in preparation for selling)?

I run a Hurst shifter as well. The best of it is that it brings the shifter closer to you than the oem. I'd prefer maybe a 25% throw reduction instead of 40% which would make it smoother. An optional shift lever leaned about an 1" closer to the driver, me, and 1/2" to the rear would be perfect for me as well. The shift ball although looking good definately doesn't feel as soft as the factory because it's solid.

Yes, Hurst here as well. VERY notchy. Went with looks VS function. I 'll bet MGW is not as notchy, just ugly.......LOL

I have the Ford Racing installed by Ford. I would never go back. it s so much easier and better. After install i couldn't believe how long I waited and wished i had sooner. The stock 07 (improved from 05-06) was sloppy and the gears were so far apart I had to reach out the passenger side to go to fifth.

The only reason I'd ever take my MGW out would be whenever I sell the car. It's SO much better to drive than the stock one was. Not just speed shifting, but every day driving too.

I had the mgw shifter in my v6 and I like my stock shifter in my gt much better. It's so much smoother and the mgw took a lot of effort to shift by comparison. It added a lot of engine and road noise too. I don't know if the gt version is the same way but I don't want to risk it lol

I had the stock, then Pro5.0, then MGW. The Pro5.0 was very smooth through all gears except reverse which really didn't bother me. The MGW was OK after playing around with it. But when I sold the car and reinstalled the factory shifter, I couldn't believe how smooth it was after having aftermarket units for three years. It was LONNNNNGGGGGG, but smooth.

Keep the hurst and get a CHE-K member brace with tq limiters. This will help with shifting

Interesting. Any further insights into how it helps? If this eliminates vibration, any chance my Hurst rattle would go away too?

I couldn't agree more. I hopped into my '99 which has a stock shifter (vs my '08's Hurst) and it was so smooth that I thought something was wrong with it at first......and LONNNNNGGGGG might even be an understatement.

It keeps the engine and transmission in line. As far as getting rid of rattles, use locktite on the shifter **** and on the handle. Also place small rubber washers on the bolts that hold the shift handle. I did this and I have no rattles what so ever. Also, place dyno matting underneath the shifter. If you do all this, you will once again be satisfied with your hurst.

Hmm, that's assuming I can get the shifter ball off, since it already has locktite on it. Thanks for the tips though, if I can get back in there, it should help. The rattle isn't very loud, so I would think these steps should take care of it.
