We waited 13 years because of kids. More mass = more safety.
There is a reson SUV's are popular. I wouldnt give up on your dream
but I wouldnt just think of myself either.
There are certainly kids in sports cars and there are kids in big ugly tanks.
I feel you wont be happy for long in a 2 door with infants. The constant moving of the seat and twisting to remove an infant from a child seat would be cumbersome to say the least.
Good luck and congradulations on the news!!

Thats very true about the twisting. I've gotten a 1997 Escort wagon lately and its been so much easier to get my month old son out!
I would suggest getting a used 4 door vehicle and then, if afforable, get the Mustang for days when you have a babysitter or other "special" days.

Congratulations 05MustangSB!!
I understand the problem with the twisting and constant moving of the seats. My fiance has a 3 year old little girl, and getting her in and out of my 2000 toyota celica is not easy. Even when she was younger (and quite a bit smaller), it was still a pain.
I'm trading in my celica for an 05 Mustang, but I am also getting a 1990 cougar as a beater from a friend of mine. My fiance also has a 2002 Buick Rendezvous. If it wasn't for the Buick, I probably would have to wait on the mustang until I could afford a reliable four door along with it.
I guess it all depends on what you are willing to put up with. If you REALLY want the mustang (and that would be understandable ^_^ ) and you don't mind the twisting and moving of the seats, then you should be able to get away with a car seat in the back for a few years. But having had to use a car seat in my celica, I can say that I wouldn't recommend it.
Good luck with the baby and congrats again!

Sarah, get the stang. I have a 2 1/2 year old with another due in June and am not regretting the car choice at all. The minor difficulty of getting them in or out is made up for every time you turn the key in the ignition. As for the safety thing, I like being in a car that can avoid accidents, not just absorb them.

Congratulations! I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 month old and it didn't stop me from ordering. The seats fit fine, and the car is L.A.T.C.H. compatible which makes swapping baby seats very easy.
But... my wife has an Outback wagon and does most of the kiddie hauling. Not having four doors may get old after a few months, but it depends on you. Some people think a four door car is inconvenient and just *have* to have the minivan. Your best bet is to take a baby seat to the dealer and test to see how bad it is getting to it, and if you can tolerate it.

While I agree with having a car that can avoid accidents, I don't think you can count on that. You can't always determine whether or not you get into an accident. Sometimes they are just unavoidable. I'm all for you getting the stang, but make sure it's more then just the car for YOU. Weather may not be much of an issue, but in my part of the country (where it seems to snow 2-3 times a week) having a 300 hp car to haul the family around in would just be impracticle.
All that being said, I hope you can get the stang... I know I can't wait for mine!!

We will have the Mustang and Windstar, both can fit everyone, but if we had to go with only one it would be the Windstar.

That's a great solution if you can afford it....but my wife can tell you about the pain that a 2 door car is with one child seat in the back.
If you can't afford both, you may have to go with the mini-van or SUV. For reasons of safety, practicality, convenience and realistic fulfilment of needs.
It's a banner day to look forward to when the child can hop in the back and put himself in the toddler seat...
