Any difference: Coupe vs 'Vert Shaker 500

I have a 2005 GT 'Vert with a Shaker 500 and I cannot connect the BrandMotion iPod adapter to the head unit so I want to replace the HU.

I have noted there are separate part numbers for a coupe and a convertible and I have heard the coupe HU and the convertible HU have different tone patterns/equilizer settings (or something to this effect--I am not an audio specialist).

My question is, regarding the sound, to what extent does the coupe HU differ from the convertible HU. Since there are more coupe HU available on eBay and the forum classifieds (I have yet to find a convertible HU), if I get a Shaker 500 from a coupe, will it sound bad in a convertible?

Also, can someone explain the difference between the HU for a coupe and a convertible?

The only difference I noticed was that on one of the sound settings on the vert it actually says convertible on the screen and that setting seems to give more bass. I believe the coupe has a similar setting but I cant remember what the screen said, it seemed to have the same effect though. I didn't know there were different part #'s though because I thought it was done in the programming so maybe there is something else different, I wouldn't think so though.

The Convertible's Shaker 500 will have an option for Convertible (more bass) and on the Coupe, it says "Rear Seats". I noticed that the front speaker volume did NOT change with the "Rear seat" option, but I did detect more bass from the subwoofers.

I have a Shaker 1000 (currently sitting in my garage workbench) and the HU did NOT have any "convertible" setting.

We all hashed this around back in 2005.

My understanding is that in 2005 there was NO distinct "convertible" mode, and even then there wasn't much if any difference in sound.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. Just find a new HU and take it from there.

So what did your Shaker 1000 have? "Rear seats"?

It seems that Rear Seats is the same as "Convertible". All I detect was extra bass from the Shaker subwoofers. The other speakers did not change in volume.

My 2006 has "rear seats" setting. It is a Shaker 500. No "convertible" setting.

I think they made the switch in mid-late '06.
