Another Shaker 1000 question thread
I'm sorry if this has been addressed before, but I've ran a search and can't find anything definitive. I have the Shaker 1000 and am trying to move my MP3s over to my car. I have been able to get the music to play on the CD's I'm burning, but after trying about 10 different formats...I can not get the track, album and artist info to show up. All I get is No Info. I saw on one thread someone mention that "Depending on the file/track encoding you may or may not see the Song, Artist and Album names", but does anyone know definitely what file/track encoding actually does work? So far I have tried Media Player, Jukebox and ITunes with no luck.
Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks!

Thanks for the response Chow...I tried the Nero Rom like you suggested, but still can't make it work.
I can't figure this thing out. When I place one of my burned CDs in the Shaker, I get the following messages:
The first message is some kind of folder code like: F1 T11 or something.
Then it switches to the name of the song.
At that point, when I hit the text button, I just go to the various No Title, No Artist, No Album messages.
Have you (or anyone else) seen this? Is there something I'm missing? Are my song tags not encoded correctly? Is there an option I need to turn on with my stereo?
Side question: When you place a retail CD in the Shaker, do you get track information (title, artist, etc)? I ask because I don't (even on CD's made recently) so I was wondering if there's just something wrong with my Shaker in general.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

The next thing you see is the file name. When you hit the text button and just get the No ..... answers, sounds like you do not have the ID tags filled out on the song properties.
On your pc, right click on one of the songs and go to properties. Click on Summary and then the advanced button. Are all of the fields filled out? If they are blank that would be a good reason why you do not see any information.

F1 T11 means Folder 1 Track 11

Good to know, because they say a lot
Arranging in folders is only a way to make the cd a bit more organized, and easier to find the song you are looking for. It just makes it faster for getting to the song you want to hear, rather than having to hit the next button 149 times to get to song #150 on the cd.
As for compression, most people use 128 bits. It is near cd quality and on the shaker system you would have a hard time hearing the difference between 128 and 320. Just stay away from anything less than 128. Most of the songs I have converted are 128, 160 or 192.

Adrenalin:
I spent Sunday investigating the problem and it appears to be an issue with my song tags. While they do appear like yours do on the screenshot...they just don't show up on the Shaker system. In fact, most of my music tags will not show up (like from my CDs). When I rip them using various software, the software appears to apply some non-compatible tags onto the songs that I can't remove. However, any song that I downloaded (stole) off the internet will often show up with blank tags, then I can apply information to and they will appear on the Shaker system.
When I take these "tagged" songs from my ripped CDs, I can erase the tag info and enter my own...but it still won't show up on the Shaker. Does anyone know of some software that will completely wipe out mp3 tags?
I've tried this on two separate burners and have the same problem, so I don't think it's a problem from my hardware. I've tried iTunes, Musicmatch, WMP and Nero...with no luck...it doesn't seem like a software issue. Unless I'm screwing up some setting that someone could please point out...I have to think there is something wrong with my Shaker system. I know that the dealership won't consider this a big deal, but if I had gone to CarToys and spent close to $1800 on a high-end changer and receiver...I would demand it to work 100% correctly and expected a lot more than a manual with 7 pages of instructions.
Well, look at me...now I'm just whining. If any of you have any helpful suggestions...I'm all ears...thanks.

Thanks for the input Adrenalin and Shea.
Adrenalin: Please let me know if you find out anything more.
Shea: Once I get home today, I'll try out the Cdex and Winamp combination. Also, thanks for calling out the tag format. Now I at least know one format that has proven to work...that's a good starting point.

My 2 cents: I would put money on the issue being related to the MP3 and not the car. Tagging procedures have changed over the years and are not done by all people creating MP3s. My recommendation is to download Media Monkey (shareware). Then you can easily look at the tags and automatically and put both tagging systems on all your MP3s (called Tag1 and Tag 2). The program will also note file names that do not match and allow you to fix them a number of ways including filling the files in based on file name. I'm not sure which system Mustang's use to ID files, but have had no issues. It is easy and a great way to file your music without the technical background.
One would think I get kickbacks. I'm sure some other software is just as good, but I am happy.

Another good program is called MP3 Tag Tools, freeware. You can use it to load all of your mp3's. It will then create a list where you can view what information is missing and then edit the tags. Works great.
Look at the picture below.
You will see that the Foo fighters does not have anything under Title or Artist, therefore no info will show on the shaker if I add that song to a cd.

Well after a ridiculous amount of trial and error (I went though 60+ burned CDs experimenting), I was able to get my songs tagged correctly and showing up in the Shaker 1000 system. I tried the various Tagging tools suggested by helpful people in this thread, but for some reason it still would not work. Even though, from a tag file perspective everything looked good, the song titles, etc. still wouldn't show up on the Shaker display.
As I continued experimenting, I ended up solving the problem with ITunes. I could rip the songs with any program I wanted, but as long as I used the ITunes option to "Convert ID3 tags", everything would work out ok. So I just converted my entire collection to v1.1 and information is now magically showing up on my system.
Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions! :worship:

I have found that using the latest version of the most popular burning programs has completely eliminated any problems with the Shaker500 reading discs. I also have an Eclipse head unit in another vehicle that was having the same problems and now also works correctly. I was having problems with only being able to read the firsts three or four folders before receiving disc read errors and having the Shaker500 and Eclipse spit out the disc. An Alpine Head unit in another vehicle seems to read anything you through at it as far as any type of MP3 tags or play-lists are concerned! As long as you burn using the latest software from Nero or Roxio.
I have used Plextor, Liteon and NEC burners with equally good results. The burning software seems to be the main key factor in producing good disc that the Shaker500 will read correctly.
I have burned a lot of discs very close to the maximum capacity with up to 16 folders and 165 songs. Using Nero 7 or Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 with equally good results. I do not use the MP3 create utilities of either program and just burn data disc that are finalized with the classic interface of either program using the Disc-at-Once method of burning. You do not need the play-list information that the MP3 creator programs add to the disc and this can also confuse the Shaker500. To have the tags show correctly when you push the text button on your Shaker500 you make sure the MP3 tags are version 1.1. You must also make sure that there are not multiple tag version within your MP3 files. You can do this by converting the tag information with iTunes or Mp3Tag Tools. Mp3Tag Tools is a very sophisticated tag editor and it will show all tags and allow you to remove the 2.X tags to be compatible with the Shaker500.
A word of warning. If you strip the 2.X tags they will not be available for a new more sophisticated head unit to read the extended information of 2.X tags. You may consider making temporary copies of the files you are burning for the Shaker500 so you don’t lose the 2.X tag information in case you would like to use the files on a system that can read them.
The Shaker500 in my 2006 Pony has been working flawlessly and has never once skipped during playback even on rough roads playing both commercial and burned CDs and MP3s.
I do not know if this information applies to the Shaker1000 but from what I have read in this forum my guess is it is the same as far as the firmware and mechanism are concerned.
I hope this information is useful to everyone in this forum.
