Another Review of our favorite car
"...the material qualities of the plastics are rather depressing. Besides being way too busy and having far too many variations in grain and texture, the overall feel is that of discount ABS plastic and melted-down LPs. While this might also be a Mustang trademark, this is one that can stand a rethink. The optional metal panel used on the dash is no better than the plastic it’s meant to hide.
One wonders if they did the research in Southern California, and if locals were involved in the design process. Certainly, anyone who lives in this barrio expects that dozens or even hundreds of hours a year are going to be wasted sitting in unforgiving traffic jams. All the while, the driver is subjected to whatever the interior has to offer. In this case, it can stand to be a more hospitable environment. Maybe “Queer eye for the straight guy†can do a little project with this? While everything is a cost consideration in bringing a product to market, at least give the consumer a choice of an extra cost option to upgrade this plastic door and dash heck."

I so hoped I would be wrong.
Well whether they dis the interior or not this quote helps redeem it...
"Squeezing the pedal on the right makes one forget just about everything, including some lack-luster interior materials. The 4.6-liter eight cylinder churns out some of the throatiest 300 horses I have ever heard. Even at low speeds, the rumble is pure muscle car. Ford gives the public just what it wants. One drive in a GT, and it might be difficult to settle for the six cylinder. Let me be the first to recommend that those involved with the engine development get a promotion, bonus or raise. So much power for so few dollars is a winning combo in any playbook. I predict many an embarrassed owner of some fairly pricey cars. When a car like this comes straight from the factory ready to kick butt, all I can say is stay the heck out of the way!"

I agree, I mean what do they want? First they like the pricing, the design, the performance and they also want it to be top quality finish
If we could choose: top quality interior (perfect wood and expensive plastic)
but no 300HP
or mustanglike interior with 300HP
easy choice no ?
I will have the new 05 with its (very few) flaws over anything else, always

a decent dash kit and all those worries about the interior are gone, I'll take my 2005 mustang the way it is and I'll customize as necessary to get it where I want it. Ford can't make everyone happy. The Mustang has always been about putting the most horsepower for the lowest buck out.
I'd sit on an egg crate with a Charmin seat, looking at a paper mache` dashboard as long as I get my MUSTANG. I am not expecting the interior of a Cadillac. Any Mustang owner who is, ........well, lets not call names.
like NewPony05 says, the Mustang has always been the Best Bang For The Buck (see any Camaros, or Firebirds lately...ha ha), not the best interior for the buck.
spicing up the interior, will take nothing compared to what buying and installing a new engine and computer, etc. would take. As long as my butt is happy in that seat, my pedal foot is happy.

I guess if this belief is reflective of the Mustang's core constituency, the new car will sell well to Mustang fanatics.
But you'll never grow market share OUTSIDE the core group that way.
It'll be interesting to read the rest of the automotive reviews as they come in. I have a feeling this will be a recurring theme.
I don't believe the plastic bit. I've seen the plastic in the F-150 and it's identical to the 05 Mustang's. They are all into the "soft-touch" plastic stuff. While Honda was spending time building a soft-touch rubber dash for their 200 hp FWD Acura RSX, Ford was shoe-horning a 300 hp V8 into a Mustang. It's not hard to see which one will be the victor.

and SO BE IT thats why there still is a Mustang around, its not a car for the masses. It is what it is, a Mustang. Once the mustang is designed to appeal to every jane, tom, weiner , and harry as well as moe and frick, it will cease to be a mustang and turn into some boring every man's car. When this happens martyr me for the mustang will ya.

If I wanted a BMW interior I would buy a BMW. These journalist are like movie critics that go see an action film and pan it because it isn't Shakespeare. MORONS!

Id give up sponge plastic for 4 more cylinders anyday. I think its comical that people buy 58,000 BMW's with 6cyl engines. The word value does not come to mind. I cant wait to see 450hp SVT's modded to 700+ trolling the local friday night strips with screaming superchargers.

Some people want a balanced measure of both.
I'm the latter...you're obviously the former. Fair enough.
But the fact remains that it takes the new '05 Mustang GT 8 cylinders to do what the BMW M3 does with only 6!
BMW M3: 0-60, 4.8 seconds (300bhp)
'05 Mustang: 0-60, 4.8 - 4.9 seconds (est.) (300bhp)
Don't get me wrong - for the money, nothing beats the looks and performance of the new '05 GT. But I'd happily pay an extra 1 to 2K for "industry standard" plastics in the interior, as opposed to the "Fisher Price" type stuff they seem to be using here. The perception is that they got 70% of the way with the interior, then ran out of money.
