Ambient Lighting

Haven't been able to find one of these on the dealer lots to try after dark, so I'll ask here; does this lighting come on automatically when you open the door, or is it controlled only by the switch on the console? Any recommendations . . . would you order it again?

Comes on when you start the car....it's a worthwhile option

I found it by browsing the catalog under 2008 Mustang and then Interior and sub category lamps, lights and treatments. It's the only item there.

You can also download a .pdf of the installation instructions, I did and it's not the exact same as the one that comes installed in the cars, basically it's just the front floorboard lighting and then it has one led in each cupholder, not the illuminated ring that is in the factory version. Also you have to drill a hole in your console top to put in the button which is round, not square like the factory version. Also it doesn't appear there is illumination for the rear floorboards. The cool thing about this version is you could probably put the button somewhere *other* than the top of the console if you wanted, and the cupholders don't have the white colored band around them when the illumination is off so you could kind of have a "stealth" ambient lighting set up if you wanted. Here's a link to the installation pdf., just cut and paste this into a browser window and it should begin the download.

My hopes were up there for a moment... until I saw the Ford Accessory version is a bastage-ized version of Ambient lighting.

I think I'll hold out for KC to see if he can do something...

This wouldn't be that bad if it was just wired into the normal lights versus a new switch. I would still prefer the cup rings. I think you could create a template to cut the cup holders to accept the rings.

Pretty goofy looking IMHO, I turn mine off. The wife likes it though.
