Am I crazy???

So my Stang that I ordered finally arrived at the dealer's lot. There's just one problem, I can't, or should I say, I don't wanna pick it up just yet. I live on the Oregon coast, and there are some lovely mountains separating me from my beautiful car. (Mountains + winter storm = snow & ice = GRAVEL on the roads) Am I crazy for not going and getting my new car? I figure I paid lots of cash for this beauty, and I really don't want it to get ruined by lots of rock chips on its first trip to it's new home. My friends look at my like I'm nuts, "It's just a car" they say. I Know it will get its fair share of chips, dings etc. but not on its first day. I have been waiting almost a week for this car since it arrived, luckily a family member who lives near the dealership has been emailing me pictures on a daily basis. I've decided to go up Monday afternoon and pick it up.

well....depending on the condidtions.....If there is going to be a lot of snow and ice...I'd say stay away.....but if you think it will be fine, I'd say do ahead....any way you can go around???? could make for a nice and long first drive of your new beauty!

I'm actually looking at all the possible routes to get to my car, but I will still have to cross through the mountains at some point. Right now I'm looking for the spot with the lowest elevation, so hopefully the roads won't be to bad.

The wait would kill me. I would be scheming for a way to get is ASAP, however, understand and sympathize with your insanity. Mine is a fair weather weekend driver. I backed the car out of the garage today and a few drops hit the windshield and I pulled it back in and drove my second vehicle. Last weekend I drove 30 miles out of my way to avoid a stretch of road that was recently "tarred & chipped".

Has your dealer promised that employees will not be driving your new Mustang, that customers will not be allowed to drive your new Mustang, that customers will not be shown your Mustang? I have a new Mustang on order. I have thought about the time between the arrival of our new Mustang at our dealer and when our check comes in from our credit union and we can take our Mustang home. I have asked our salesman and he has promised us that they will not sell our Mustang to someone else. We are disappointed and apprehensive about his answer. So I ask others on this forum who have bought new Mustangs; did your dealer prevent employees from driving your new Mustang and protect it from the general public before you were able to drive it home?

Thanks.

Can you park it at your relative's place near the dealer and wait for better weather?

The weather wasn't bad this weekend, we had a break from the snow/rain/ice. Its supposed to be okay for another couple of days... Maybe now is the time to go get it?

Technically if you've signed any paperwork stating that you are buying that car then they can't sell it out from under you. The best thing to do is to get them to put the VIN number of the car on their receipt. I'm assuming you had to sign something/give them a deposit. If the VIN is on that paperwork then they can't sell it for sure. Without the VIN, they could technically say that they had another car for you and not the one they sold, although this is fairly rare.

Know anyone that would give you a break on renting a trailer or transporting it on a flatbed? Just be sure it is driven onto the flatbed and not winched on.

Where did you buy the car? I live just up the road a piece in Pasco, WA. There have been quite a few times when the weather was bad and I took the Gorge route to get to Portland. Not too bad there on the interstate. Maybe there is not a direct route to your home.

I wouldn't worry about how the car is going to handle in bad weather. It is quite good. Rain, snow, de-icer compound....you can wash off the effects of these easily. But, I know what you mean about rocks. Maybe look for the spray on protectant from Dupli-Color (I think). Clear spray that can be removed later, but provides some rock protection. Or a bra (that you can toss after you get home because they're ugly, at least I think so).

It seems like the weather isn't so bad at the moment, so you might be able to get it home without problems. Good Luck.

I picked up the car last night, and stayed at some relatives house. The drive home today was amazing, I can't remember the last time I had so much fun driving a car. The roads had some gravel, but most was pushed off to the side, so the trip wasn't to hard on the car.

I just read that Ford now has $1000 cash back, I think I just got screwed since I took possession the day before the incentive kicked in.

Don't worry about the missed incentive - that kind of stuff just makes one crazy. You got your car - just enjoy it. Congrats.

Where on the Oregon Coast are you? My wife and I often come to either Cannon Beach, Manzanita or Newport for Spring Bread and rent a condo on the beach and just relax. Love the Coast.

TUCO - I live in Seaside, and you are right about the missed incentive. I went to bed last night irritated, when I woke up this morning I realized it was a beautiful day and so it was time to take my new baby for a spin. I've been driving it all day long, and enjoying every minute of it.
