Ok a little more advice....
When you do get pulled over for speeding, be polite, don't be angry or argue. If so, you are getting a ticket.
When he asks you if you know how fast your are going, your answer must be "I haven't checked my speed in the last minute. I assumed I was going the speed limit."
Any other answer will get you in trouble. If tell him even you though you were only going 5 over, he can use that against you in court, and you will be conviceted every time. If you tell a delibrite lie, (ie, "I was driving 65") he will know you are not being truthful, and you will for sure get the ticket. If you answer like I recommend above and be plite and respectful, more times than not, you will be let off with a warning.

we should create a sub forum for fighting tickets, both preventing them and fighting them in court, broken up with what state and actuall real legal tactics that work, no hypotheticals or things that youve heard that havent been confirmed, if I am bored a little later I will post all the things you can use to get a speeding ticket dismissed if paced by the cop.

im writing a book on speeding safely and effectively and getting away with it.
some tips (other than detectors):
65% of avoiding a ticket is using your SENSES (mostly eyes, but also ears, and ESP that "i dont feel comfortable speeding right now" feeling that results from unfamiliar territory and other indicators like slowing of traffic ahead, or cop-infested areas in which u havent seen a cop in a while)
10% is how polite you are to the cop when you ARE pulled over, which will happen eventually if you always speed...
25% is correctly using a detector
most of the times you get pulled over will be by a cop DRIVING around, NOT a speed trap, so you must be weary of the way in which you speed. do it in straight lines, minimize weaving, engine break (dont push breaks as it draws too much attention at night) before going around large, swooping turns or up hills, to avoid cops that are ~1/4 miles back from judging your speed and singling you out.
a cop is just another person, and it is next to impossible to look at an object from behind and judge its speed to within 15mph if it is travelling directly away in a straight line...distance perception can work for you if u are far enough away that the cop cant accurately pace you at all
USE TURN SIGNALS, even if you are speeding. change lanes slowly even when going fast, letting the turn signal blink 4-6 times to give an impression of a cautious driver from a distance.
VARY YOU SPEED. on the highway i vary between 80 and 120, usually around 85-90mph. the goal of speeding is one of two things anyway:
1) the adrenaline of accelerating (there really isnt any joy in setting cruise control at 150mph in a straight line is there?)...so varying speed gives u bursts of that rush
2) getting somewhere fast, in which case you are already going 25 over the spd limit so you are making good time, and varying speed when changing lanes (slowing when you pass a car, then speeding up when u are 100ft past it) will maximize you use of time when driving somewhere and minimize the attention u grab from cops
if you do get clocked, chances are better than it will be at a slower speed than setting CC at 110ish.
if you think you see a cop, dont second guess yourself! slow down and treat the bogey as a risk. slowly catch up and identify whether it is or not...or slowly pull away if you are in front, utilizing open road and staight lines. rule of thumb for a white, american car (anything resembling a police cruiser): if you can identify the length of the driver of the car's hair THROUGH the back windshield, it is not a police cruiser, as you could also check for a light bar inside the windshield, etc.
there are tons more...hope these are useful

[/QUOTE]The best answer I've heard when a cop asks you "Do you know how fast you are going" is : How fast do you think I was going? Answer a question with a question. I got this from a trip to traffic school and the teacher was a cop!
I wonder if he was setting you up for failure. Not answering questions directly is a common pet peeve for officers. It can also be seen as smart mouthed, which is the kiss of death for getting off with a warning.

A 'talented' speeder is attentive, and doesn't go more than 15 over the posted limit except for short bursts.
The biggest problem you will face, is that there is no single 'cop mentality'. If I ask my shift a question, they'll all answer a little differently. Some write teens every time. Some give teens breaks. Some write women every time, and some give breaks. Some write everyone (to include their mothers and God if they caught him). Some are real push overs and write very few tickets, but make stops to give their Sgt the impression they are actually doing something to reduce accidents and make drivers more cautious out on the roadway. Some State Troopers write other cops...I got a commemorative certificate from one a few years ago to proove it. Some never write cops, doctors, nurses or teachers.
There are a few *almost* universal truths:
1) Don't be an jerk to the officer. Respect and the truth will get you off more times than any other tactic...bar none. Cops like being treated like human beings for a change, and they REALLY like someone who is honest, which is uncommon.
2) Don't try to be a comedian. You will end up looking like #1
3) Pull over in a safe spot to get the officer off the roadway. Blinker on, slowly moving to a parking lot is good. When they approach, apologize for not stopping immediately, but tell them you wanted to be sure they were safe to get out of their squad car. This 'might' get you some brownie points, and if they add up, you get a free pass.
*CAVEAT* The narcotics hunters will get all excited by this behavior and assume you have dope or something in the car you were hiding while pulling over. They will ask for consent to search. If you want a good chance of getting off with a warning, give them consent and be polite about it. Unless you are a complete idiot and actually drive around with dope in your car, or more stupidly, use it in there where it can be smelled or found on a traffic stop, you've got nothing to worry about. Or even worse, have illegal weaponry. Leave the guns/machetes/nunchucks/clubs at home. After the search, usually people get let go with a warning.
4) Some officers decide if they are going to write a citation the moment they start to pursue. If you meet one of these automatons, unless your wife is crowning in the passenger seat, you're probably going to be spending a weekend at defensive driving school.
---
If you truly believe the officer was wrong, always take the citation to court. Bring photos, make sure they are logged into evidence before court begins, and have your case ready. Unless you are an attorney, get one. If you are an attorney, you know to get a different one than yourself to represent you already.
If you are a real dare devil, and insist on fighting a 'good' ticket in court, and defending yourself, then you'd better know how your local courts work. Be forewarned: If you get caught in a lie, you can face additional penalties. With video cameras, audio recordings, etc, the entire event from when they observed you committing the violation, to the end of the stop can be on tape. Nothing is more fun than putting those tapes on in court, and watching the defendant ask if they can change their plea...too late...guilty and max fine for wasting the court's time.
Never, ever, **** off the judge. Had a guy get found guilty, and as he walked out of the court, he muttered 'b-i-t-@-$'. The female judge tapped her gavel and instructed the baliff and yours truly to sieze him immediately. He got 72 hours no bond/no bail time in the crossbar hotel for contempt of court. I say again, never, ever, **** off the judge.
Now, if it is an iffy ticket, and the local judge is a bit liberal, they'll give as much weight to your claims as the officer. If the local judge is in love with their local officers, you're screwed. Period. It ain't fair, but to quote a sergeant of mine from my Army days, "It bees that way". Juries are reaaaaaaallly iffy. If you are blessed with good looks and a good public presence, you can do well in front of a jury. However, a young man in a blue suit with shiny buttons and a badge is going to get more credibilty points against average joes. (See sarge's sage statement above ref:fairness) Your best bet will be to get one of those $45 attorneys who will cut a deal with the city prosecutor to get you no fine or record if you complete a deferral and never bother with court at all. Then behave for 90 days!

Holy cow, I wrote a chapter for that book someone was writing. Sorry for the long winded reply. Once I got going, it just grew out of hand.

Thx for the tips... However your'e wrong about one thing. My father owns a V1 and it will go off even when his car is not targeted. The laser signal bounces off of cars, so that if a cop targets a car in front of my dads, he will know. Radar detectors aren't useless. I don't know if that works with the export passort though. Imagine it would.

One more thing to consider while speeding (excessively )and weaving through traffic. Everyone has a cell phone these days and *SP takes about 2 seconds to dail and turn your plate number in. You may not get caught, but if there is a cruiser in the area they will be looking for you.

has anyone seen the episode of mythbusters on the discovery channel or the history channel i forget which one but anyways they tested a bunch of products including veil and proved that they dont work....they also tried some pretty funny ones to like covering the car in aluminum foil etc....

I have found that cruising in the right lane whenever possible is a must. Know the rules of the road. Truckers for instance can be a huge pain in the backside, if you don't understand how they are driving. But if you know what to expect from them, they can be an asset. Also, driving in the right lane keeps you sorta hidden, as you look like all the rest of the cars in the right lane. The left lane usually has less cars in it, and is the first lane seen by police going the oposite direction. It is also the law... anyone ever seen "slower traffic keep right"???
In another vein, I just picked up a Solo 2 cordless. Thoughts from anyone who has used it or heard good/bad things??? I have not had a detector in a long time...

I would have stuck with the Escort Passport 8500 X50. The S2 doesn't have the range the Escort does, and you'll be going through batteries pretty darn fast.
By the way, I think I saw that history channel show too awhile back. Veil was never tested on the show, and every independent test I've seen of Veil has always had positive results.
