I don't have my manual with me, but coming to work my airbag light came on. It is this orange color under the speedo. It will go off then come back on after flashing for a bit.
Any ideas? Is it about to pop at any second?! heh
Seriously, lemme know.

take it to the dealer, could be a false signal in the electrical system or something is wrong with the AirBag system, meaning if you get into an accident, the airbags will not deploy!

check and make sure all fuses are okay also, a blown fuse will cause some instrument cluster warning lights to stay on fully. At least that's what happened with my grand am.

The action you need to take is pretty obvious, but if you MUST know what the manual says:
Air bag readiness: If this light fails
to illuminate when ignition is turned
to ON, continues to flash or remains
on, have the system serviced
immediately. A chime will also sound when a malfunction in the
supplemental restraint system has been detected.

Your airbags WILL NOT blow for no reason. The light coming on indicates a problem with the system and that keeps them from popping. Yes, take it to the dealer, but don't call a tow truck unless you just don't feel safe without them.

This is very ironic that this has happened to someone else. Mine came on this past Saturday and would not go off. I took mine to the dealership in town and they said my airbag module had to be replaced. Long story short, light on , bad airbag module, no airbag. You get in a crash, youd meet the windshield not the airbag. They said it might be in my best interest not to drive it until the part came in and could be replaced. Kind of worries me that this happened at only 5K.

I love how dealers tell people not to drive because their airbag won't go off.
What advice do they give to the pre 1980s vehicles with no air bags? Are they somehow now unsafe?
Here's some better advise for the dealers to give... "don't get into accidents."

They're probably just afraid of a potential lawsuit should someone get in an accident w/out the standard safety equipment.

I'll take it to the dealer asap. With school and working 2nd shift it might be a bit tricky. I have this super sneaky feeling that it might be the weight sensor under the passenger seat. I haven't looked yet but I think there might be a lose connection there. I say that because I had a bunch of people in my car, and later that day it started happening. I wonder if someone kicked something?
I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for the help.

Just a quick update for anyone wondering. The error message from the computer says there was a short underneath the seat. They took the harnesses off and cleaned the connections and plugged it all back in. I haven't seen the light since. I think one of the pins might have been dislodged when a passenger stuck his foot underneat the seat. This car is definately not friendly to rear seat passengers... but we had fun cruising through town.
