Accident: Shelby GT bumper cover
Accident: Shelby GT bumper cover
This morning someone backed into my Mustang. She pushed in the bumper cover with her bumper.
My car is a Mustang GT, but Ford installed CS front and rear bumper covers after my last accident. Her insurance adjuster will be looking at it tomorrow. So I washed and covered the Mustang.
What do I want to look for? The trunk doesn't close perfectly. The black trim piece is a little bowed on the inside and the plastic screws popped out. But from the outside the trunk lid looks correct.
Will her insurance try to replace the cover with the GT one instead of the CS one? Should I get several quotes or just go to Ford and have them complete the repair? Should I contact my insurance company? My last accident is coming off my insurance next month. Will this affect me if I call?
What questions should I ask? Is there any kind of compensation? Do I get a rental car while they repair it?
I just want her fixed and back on the road.

1. It's a no-fault claim, it "should" not count against you.
2. Unless you have Progressive, You can take it anywhere you want for the repair.
3. They have to make the Car to the condition of what it was "BEFORE" the incident.
4. Make sure the Adjustor see's that the Trunk does not close correctly. Also any other damage that has happened because of the incident.
This is from "MY" experiance only, YMMV.

Do not sign any releases from the adjuster. Wait until the body shop pulls the cover off and looks at possible internal damage, which you cannot see. Normally, they will just call the insurance company and tell them what was found, and what it will cost to repair. Don't let the adjuster try to bully you into accepting anything less then what the car was before the incident.
Not to hijack the thread, but I'm going in the opposite direction. A little old lady rear-ended me last Thursday, and I'm taking my 06 GT to the body show tomorrow. I want the stock rear bumper replaced with the GT/CS one. Another irony is that I had just installed FRPP GTAs, and the right side muffler tip is bent--I don't know whether or not it is salvageable, but they had been laying around my garage for a couple of years, and I don't think that they are $270 shipped anymore! We will see what the adjuster has to say about it all!
Progressive IS the insurance company for the person who backed into me. I will be able to take it to the Ford Dealership that sells Roush and has a nice bodyshop onsite. They will provide a rental car for me, enterprise will pick me up. I did ask for a car that would be comparable to a Mustang Convertible. They mentioned something about an Avenger or Sebring, lol. Oh well, I tried. I will let you know how it goes.
FWIW the GT-500 rear bumper cover is $519 and the dealer/parts friend would sell it to be for $419, but I mentioned that it was insurance and that the discount was unneccessary.

I had a great experience with Progressive and they really did a great job taking care of everything. But then again, it involved my totalled Harley, so nothing to debate on what parts to use or where to take it. But regardless of the fault (which they figured out later) I had a check hand delivered within a couple days of the total bike value along with $4K worth of accessories that were covered under the policy.
Good luck with getting this handled!!

Is the bumper cover (plastic) ripped or torn? If not, they'll just repaint it.
But it sounds like there might be some damage underneath that, if you are seeing panels inside the trunk pushed in.
I have the CS bumper covers on mine, and had a rear end accident last spring. The cover wasn't cut or torn, so them just re-painted it because of the paint damage.
Good luck, hope it comes out good as new.

Progressive insurance coverage was decent. They gave me a Chevy HHR for two weeks. It snowed the entire time here in Ohio. The new bumper cover is installed. It is the GT-500 instead of the CS. The part number is 7R3Z*17K835*BAPTM $542.30 then the paint was $158.40 @ $44.00/hour book rate. They replaced the trunk seal also. It cost me only the time and the gas. It is now covered for the winter.
