I took that at the Innovation drive last weekend. The Ford guy said it was two speakers. It was a computer designed enclosure to keep it small and still sound good.

Well I like rap on occasion, but mostly loud classic rock and I was going to get the 1000 but it's taking a 1/3 of the trunk away! even with the rear seats down that's a lot of cargo space! But 9 speakers blairing "Born to be wild" on the I-15 towards Vegas! Hummm?

Has anyone actually seen 2 speakers in the trunk enclosure or documentation directly referencing 2 subs? The reason I ask is that the enclosure in the picture above could very well house 1 sub and 1 passive radiator. That would leave 2 unknown speakers elsewhere in the car and would most likely mean they are high-mount tweeters a la 460-style.

Just curious.
That's exactly what I was asking myself a few months back. Nobody responded on it though :P

That's probably because almost nobody knows what a passive radiator is. On that note, I do think that is a rather clever thought. But on the other hand a passive radiator is still a speaker. And considering Ford does the 1000 WATTS thing, while in reality it's not even half that, you would think they would be screaming 10 SPEAKERS as well if they had the slightest reason...

hehe nah I wasn't speaking about a passive radiator but about the possibility of ford counting the two subs in the trunk as one speaker

Does anyone know the diameter of the speakers in the new shakers systems?
the ones in the trunk are 2 x 10" speakers. i can only guess that what's in the back dash is 6x9's. the subs in the doors, probably 4's or 6's. not sure where the rest are, so i can't really make a guess. [/b][/quote]
The door subs are 8s...measured them myself. As for the trunk...they didn't have a Shaker 1000 in the one I saw. And I believe that the sizes in the front and back are probably 6X8, which is the stock Ford size these days.

So 2 door subs, plus 4 coax (2 in doors, 2 in rear deck), plus 2 subs in trunk = 8. No clue on the ninth.

i though i remember reading somewhere that even w/ the shaker box in the trunk, this mustang has more room in the trunk than the current mustang. i don't remember where i saw that, maybe the issue of hot rod w/ the red stang on the cover a few months back. i could be wrong though.

that is actually a really small box. i've seen much worse where people give up their entire trunk for 2 - 10's or 2 - 12's. and what i've seen, the box is usually put right in front of the back seats, which completly negates the folding rear seat. i think this is a nice setup, and worth the investment if you want it.

besides, if the speakers are really that bad you can always use the same box, but install some aftermarket speakers, and a different amp if you need to. i remember seeing in the 2005 focus brochure that it has the shaker 500/1000 available, and that it was made by sony. i would assume that the same shaker would be in the mustang as in the foci, and sony is a pretty good brand imo.

kevin may be able to clarify that about the focus brochure, but i pretty sure it said it was made by sony on there. crazy.

Delphi is also providing four other products on the new Mustang including the intrusion and inclination sensor module, smart electrical distribution center, 6 CD in-dash audiophile radio and the Delphi passive occupant detection system. Two Audiophile systems are available in the Mustang, a Shaker 500 with 500 watts of peak power and the Shaker 1000 with 1000 watts. On cars equipped with either system, each door has its own subwoofer in a ported enclosure. This allows the door-mounted woofers to produce more "thump" than if they were housed in the bare door. The 1000-watt version adds a mounted, ported enclosure in the trunk that includes two more subwoofers.

Both systems include an in-dash six-CD changer that has the capability to play discs with MP3 computer files. This allows customers to play as many as 200 compressed music files from one disc, making the Mustang’s six-disc changer capable of becoming its own jukebox with more than 1,200 songs, or 60 hours of music.

maybe it's two different stero companys but they're sharing a name?

ah well.

The "Mustang Driving Experience" with its rich V-8 rumble is the best sound of all, but some nice "tunes" along the way is pleasurable too

Not to flame anyone here, but playin' hiphop in a Mustang is plain wrong to me. Mustang is rock'n roll.

I agree. Mustang is, "La Grange".

It says right on Ford's Mustang brochure that there are TWO subs in the trunk (w/shaker 1000), so I don't know why people are still questioning that. I assume the 9th speaker is a center channel, maybe in the front dash? I'll see what I can find out when I drive one on Thursday.
