It's a shame that Ford isn't remodelling a year earlier because it would fantastic with hips and a more fastback style body. Other than that, keep it true to the Steve McQueen car style-wise and add another 30 horse. To me this car is more of a tribute car than a car to compete with something else. I'm a huge Steve McQueen fan so I'm looking forward to this. There isn't a chance in heck Ford will pass this opportunity up.

Off-topic:
Even with 350 HP, we WILL get spanked by the 2008 M3 on a circuit and maybe even at the drag strip. The future generation M3 (E90 model) will have a lightweight, 4.0L V8 engine derived from M5's V10, estimated to produce 415 HP. It will have a 7-speed SMG tranny or, optionally, the traditional 6-speed manual.
The current model M3 with the 3.2L I6 has "only" 343HP and 285 lb.ft at 3450lbs and already manages 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
Sadly, I don't think the M3 will be our competitor anymore. It seems it will be the task of the GT500 or maybe another 400+ HP SE Mustang available by the time the new M3 is out, to keep up with it. The GT just won't do it.

Back to topic:
A 40-year anniversary Bullit would be an interesting idea, as long as it's not just another purely cosmetic addition to the Mustang line-up, like the already widely-disapproved GT/CS.

Is it not appropriate for a car costing approximately twice as much to "spank" the mustang? The performance difference could easily be covered for alot less than the added cost of buying the bimmer.

I am holding out hoping they will build the Bullitt, I would trade my 06Gt for it in a minute, but yes...its HAS to be Highland Green (see pic at left) that car would be a perfect stable mate for the KR

And while we're at it, can we please get a carburetor and some bias ply tires, too? Maybe I can buy them next time I'm in town picking up my leaches and snake oil at the apothecary.

Power windows and locks are not needed. At lerast for me. All it is, is just something else to go wrong, and more weight.

So, since the anniversary of the film is 2008, and that should be the last year before they restyle the Stang, I'm betting on a new Bullitt GT. Here's my wishlist... Feel free to post any ideas or comments.

Appearance:
1. Highland green paint ONLY (no black & blue this time, okay, Ford?)
2. Removal of ALL ext. badging, and use of V6 grille (at least.)
3. Standard 17" rims (TQ style, in magnesium.)
4. Side window louvers.
5. Standard leather interior, with vintage-look gauges, etc.
6. Hurst shifter w/ cueball **** (or whatever a 68 Stang had...)
Performance:
1. 281cid 3-valve V8, preferably with 325-330hp (remember, we want to keep this cheap.)
2. 6-speed tranny from the Shelby GT.
3. Exhaust tuned to sound like a 68 (like the 1st Bullitt GT.)
4. FRPP handling pack from the factory (strut-tower brace, stabilizer bars, etc.)

So, good or bad? If Ford does this, and can keep it at around $30K retail, then

Ah! I forgot- no spoiler!

I think thats a great idea. Kind of like a modern replica. It will look better than in the 01 body.
