Talking

So, since the anniversary of the film is 2008, and that should be the last year before they restyle the Stang, I'm betting on a new Bullitt GT. Here's my wishlist... Feel free to post any ideas or comments.

Appearance:
1. Highland green paint ONLY (no black & blue this time, okay, Ford?)
2. Removal of ALL ext. badging, and use of V6 grille (at least.)
3. Standard 17" rims (TQ style, in magnesium.)
4. Side window louvers.
5. Standard leather interior, with vintage-look gauges, etc.
6. Hurst shifter w/ cueball **** (or whatever a 68 Stang had...)
Performance:
1. 281cid 3-valve V8, preferably with 325-330hp (remember, we want to keep this cheap.)
2. 6-speed tranny from the Shelby GT.
3. Exhaust tuned to sound like a 68 (like the 1st Bullitt GT.)
4. FRPP handling pack from the factory (strut-tower brace, stabilizer bars, etc.)

So, good or bad? If Ford does this, and can keep it at around $30K retail, then

Ah! I forgot- no spoiler!

i think it should have a 5.4 NA with 350 hp.

just swap out the F150 bottom end and you should get around 350hp with just a tune.

That would add a lot to the price, I surmise, since they'd probably have to set up a whole new assembly line. Or maybe they could use the Cobra line? I don't know.

Motor Trend had a facsimile of a Bullitt in an old issue, if anyone remembers...probably what Ford should do.

I can't see how that could cost that much money....every part would be out of their parts bin.

If possible, I would like to avoid a 5.4 unless it was an aluminum block. This car is heavy enough .

Now, thats not saying I would not be crazy over one anyways

That's all fine and good...the cost is putting the parts together. Like I said, if a 5.4 is used, maybe the Cobra assembly line could support the car so it's not too costly.

Add GT 500 style headlights and grille, Ford can keep the hood. Oh yeah, keep the price down!

If the plant remains configured as it is now, there should not be a dedicated assembly line. An automated portion of the line houses all of the engines needed and moves them to the car. The final assembly should take place among other Mustang models as well as the Mazda 6s. Only the body shop is dedicated, but that can produce both coupe and convertible Mustang unibodies.

The engines are assembled in a niche line at the Romeo plant and trucked to the Mustang assembly plant.

More of the cost would most likely come from the engineering and certification time for a 5.4L engine.

- 18" rims ONLY - 17" looks puny on the new Stang
- Front grille and hood of new Shelby CS6
- Highland Green paint ONLY (I agree)
- Would like louvers, but doubt it will happen due to visibility constraints
- Current gauges are perfect already - but let's have horizontally stitched seats like the '01 model
- No Hurst shifter (those are too much of a throwback to the '60s cars, and not ergonomic enough for daily driving compared to the '05)
- 6-speed tranny would be nice, though
- FRPP kits would be good
- MINIMUM 350 horses so we don't get completely spanked by the 2008 M3

First off, I don't want another bullitt, I'd rather have a Boss, with the 5.0 cammer. With manual door locks, windows.

But if they did have a Bullitt, again. I don't know. You list will make it look like a 68. Which would be pointless in my eyes. If you want a 68 lookin Mustang, then get a 68.

And while we're at it, can we please get a carburetor and some bias ply tires, too? Maybe I can buy them next time I'm in town picking up my leaches and snake oil at the apothecary.

Off-topic:
Even with 350 HP, we WILL get spanked by the 2008 M3 on a circuit and maybe even at the drag strip. The future generation M3 (E90 model) will have a lightweight, 4.0L V8 engine derived from M5's V10, estimated to produce 415 HP. It will have a 7-speed SMG tranny or, optionally, the traditional 6-speed manual.
The current model M3 with the 3.2L I6 has "only" 343HP and 285 lb.ft at 3450lbs and already manages 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
Sadly, I don't think the M3 will be our competitor anymore. It seems it will be the task of the GT500 or maybe another 400+ HP SE Mustang available by the time the new M3 is out, to keep up with it. The GT just won't do it.

Back to topic:
A 40-year anniversary Bullit would be an interesting idea, as long as it's not just another purely cosmetic addition to the Mustang line-up, like the already widely-disapproved GT/CS.

Darn... The Wal-Mart pharmacy is fresh out of leaches.

But I did get a great deal on some eye of newt!

Do you think they get the snake oil from a Cobra?

I wonder if it makes any difference what year it is.

1. I want this to look 'old-school,' so I'd hate to see 18s. Low-profile tires + Bullitt = looks like crap.
2. Shelby looks like crap; I respectfully disagree.
3. Nothing to say.
4. Oh, I bet they'd do it. They'd do it if they care at all what the consumer thinks.
5. Too much of a throwback to 60s cars? Why do you even like Stangs anyway? It's still a 60s car at heart!
6. Nothing to say.
7. Nothing to say.
8. Hey, we're gettin spanked by the M3 anyway, and I wanna be able to afford this in a few years.

There are plenty of people running 18 inch wheels without low profile tires and it looks awesome so.....

I do NOT think the Shelby hood should be on a Bullitt....... no way

The current M3 actually has 333 horses and 262 ft-lbs of torque, with a 0-60 time usually estimated to be around 4.8 seconds, so even the current car beats a stock Mustang GT handily with a simple, inline 6.

But, yeah, you're right, it'll take more than 350 horses to beat the next M3 - in fact, it may take nothing less than the Shelby itself.

Basically like your description. A torquey 3V 5.4 might make for more of a match to the ol' 390 big block, but a pumped up 4.6 would be fine too. Six speed is a great idea, as are the decontented exterior trim and handling upgrades. Would go with 18" wheels and yes, the ubiquitous Bullitt style as they fit, thematically, on this model (waaaaaaaaay overused on all the other Stangs however). I would do without the window louvres as visability is iffy enough over the shoulder, unless they did something see-through like an old Mercedes 450 SLC.

But overall, a nice, classy, understated Bullitt would appeal to me greatly.

I hear you BC - I know you were talking about the CS6 hood - I just don't think that belongs on a Bullitt is all....
