Let's enjoy it while we can. heck my 95 v-6 rodeo only got 20 mph on the highway.....my GT with the 4.10's still gets 24 on the highway.

 

I'm not ordering them, seeing as I will most likly be putting 4.10's in.

 

The order guide didn't up the MPG numbers for 2007, still 25MPG for manual, 23 for auto, just like 05/06.

 

you cant really trust what the window sticker says for the fuel mileage.


i like some others am probably going to swap gears in after the fact, so i didnt bother ordering the 3.55's, besides the high speed cruising will be that much better with the 3.27's

Yes. The Shelby and the GT (auto AND stick) come standard with 3.31 gears for '07.

BTW, the Mustang hasn't come with 3.27's since '04.

 

You'd think on the manual they'd tout that fact. Overdrive is .62 instead of .68, stock rear is 3.31... this is a double 'plus' hit in the mileage of this car...

 

Again, according to the 2007 Mustang Key Product Features publication, the OD ratio for the manual GT is 0.68 (see page 28).

The OD ratio listed for the 05 & 06 GT manuals was 0.62.

The info I have is that OD in 05 & 06 was .62 and will be .68 for 07.

Please post the source of your info. that shows it the other way around.

 

Yeah, we walked over to the Parts department to look it up. Parts guy didn't have a clue either, and made a comment like "We don't usually order from that company". I pointed it out for him in the catalog, which I was reading upside down.

Decided I could put it on myself and get it cheaper mailorder than they would do it. All I would need to do would be to go get an alignment afterwards. I've still got a couple months, and just might have the kit sitting in the garage with the other goodies before then. I think I saw it on RPM outlet at just under $1000 yesterday. Hmmmm.

 

What I was alluding to is that the documentation has been wrong in many other areas. I will hunt down my source. In the meantime, ponder why they would go from .62 to .68 instead of vice versa. Going TO .62 would increase gas mileage by dropping the hwy rpms down about 200 or so (educated guess). I believe (proof coming either way, and if I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it) key product features brochure is incorrect. KBB.com and Ford's Fleet Sales websites BOTH say Grabber Orange Clearcoat Metallic when the color is INDEED... not metallic.

But hold your horses until I can find my source.

If that's what I really posted, I ment to post the opposite - changing from .62 to .68.

OD ratio on the Stang GT was .68 with the old T45.
In Feb 01 Ford started using the T3650 with .62 OD.
As far as I know the .62 OD carried over through the 05 & 06 model years.

 

Any speculation as to what motivated the change in OD? Has there been any complaints about power at freeway speeds?

 

I have to qualify that we really don't know for sure if the OD ratio has changed. As Pitpup points out, there always are errors in the Ford information. So until one of us get their hands on an 07 GT manual and checks it out, who knows for sure?

If the OD ratio has really changed from 0.62 to 0.68 a good reason is that going from 1.00 in 4th to .62 in 5th is too much of a drop in gear ratios.

My 01 GT with a T45 has a .67 OD and to me it's almost too big a drop in gear ratio. I've driven 02 - 04 GTs with the T3650 & .62 OD and I really hate the .62 OD in those year GTs. It's far to big a drop, makes OD only useful when you're on an interstate. Same with driving an 05 GT, I don't like the .62 OD.

Of course Ford could solve the problem by giving us a 6 speed that has 2 OD ratios, 5th @ .75 and 6th @ .55.

 

Hell I'd say it didn't need it. I've gotten 28mpg on the highway in my 06 GT (std trans) on a flat road, 70 mph. In the medium hills I get 26.5 mpg, 24.5 in the Pennsylvania foothills. Driving "normal" it's about 22mpg around town, and driving it like a Mustang gets me 17-18.5. For 300hp, I'd say that ain't bad. If they really wanna cut back on highway mileage, why doesn't Ford throw in something like the Multiple Displacement System (MDS)? Chevy and Chrysler already have it.

 

Those are pretty high numbers compared to most guys.
