2009 GT500?

Hi, I'm relatively new here and have been mostly on the 2010-14 Threads. Anyways I was in my local Ford dealer today talking to a salesman. I've been looking at getting a new '14 GT/CS in the next few weeks. But was told about a '09 GT500 for about the same price as a loaded GT/CS with about 12,000 miles on it.

Just curious on if anyone owns/driven an '09 GT500 and their feedback on them. Pros/Cons.

Thanks Ian.

Depends on your long-term plans for the car. I've driven plenty of GT500s from that generation and would put my 5.0 against any stock one. Granted-I've got a little work done. The Shelby is a sweet ride but I'd take a brandie-new 5.0 given the option

BUT I'm biased

I plan on keeping it quite a while. I know the new 5.0L cars run with the 07-09 Shelby's. Just curious people's opinions. I'm looking for a more "well rounded" car. Not necessarily all out performance.

I'm leaning towards a '14. Just wanted some feedback on everyone's opinions of the cars before I took the "plunge".

With the GT500 you get the 5.4L, which I think would be more expandable. As well as the 05-09 Body style, which I am quite biased towards lol.

With the GT you get all the latest an greatest, and the 5.0 is quite an engine. I guess its mostly personal preference.

I say go for the Shelby, the 05-09 body style is better I my opinion and its a much more of a rarity car, 5.0s are some what regular to see, a Shelby turns heads and drops jaws all day

I guess your really looking at Exclusivity, if that matters to you. A Shelby is a Shelby. The new 5.0's are sweet too but they are not a special edition or anything. Thats a HARD choice. Good luck with that!

Had an '08... great car! While most of the clutch issues were remedied by '09, some still exhibit related problems. If you decide on the GT500, make sure that the TSB was performed. Aside from that, the car is mod friendly and can take a beating. Check out fortgt500.com or teamshelby.com for further information on the TSB...

I have an '09. Since the OP is wanting a more "well rounded" car, it's probably going to be the '14, rather than the '09. That said, my '09 is a great GT car; comfortable and good looking. I still prefer the "retro" '05-'09 body to the newer ones, and the 5.4 can produce some very reliable and serious power, without getting into the bottom end. Nothing wrong with the newer 5.0 cars, but there's something to be said for having that Shelby... Adding about $5K to either car will make it very fast, but that 5.4 is already built to take about 650 HP painlessly; not sure about the 5.0. BTW- the '09 was the most improved of that body style, and probably the least common of all the late model GT500s (fewest produced). Good luck! Either would be a great car.

I agree...the shelby 'rarity' isnt like the old days, but 09 was the shortest run ever - dunno how many shelbys were built, but bet it was lowest since the 70's... not that the 09 was any different than a 08.

drove a buddies 09 (white with vista blue stripes) it was low mileage too, he traded it in and made money on it...definitely a powerful car, but I was a little letdown, expecting bigblock torque off idle, but it really didnt come alive till around 3k, but then, sheesh...very impressive

Ive heard the new 5.0 with its incredible 7500 redline is understandably a topend motor, with similar lowend- but I havent driven one. if I wasnt already 'car-poor' I'd definitely go for a 09 over a newer one- I'm obviously biased totally to the 05-09 body style...

even though the 10-up definitely has a nicer interior(but I dont dislike the 05-09 interior) and the extra 100 base hp would be great, I'm probably go to my grave saying the 05-09 was the 2nd best looking mustang ever(69 just cant be outdone) and even with the new goodies, I'd still stay stuck in the 05-09...

no regrets, if I could swing it, i'd love a matching 08 for the full set of vista blue years

This is really a tough call.
With 12,000 miles the '09 should be like new. Is it?? One owner? Garage kept?? Need tires or are they originals which will need to be changed much sooner than later?? (certainly not cheap to replace with quality rubber.) Quite a few factors to consider. Personally I would take the new GT/CS which is 5 model years newer and quite 'different' in it's own respect. It is certainly fast enough and might be a tad more comfortable in the 'ride' area if that is important to you. Definitely a personal decision.
Enjoy whichever one you get!!

In my opinion The advantages of the Shelby are the exclusivity and the engine. I'd say I like everything else on the 2014 GT better.

And the 5.0 is certainly no slouch, you can make 550-600rwhp with just a blower. And if I recall that year gt500 will only make around 500rwhp or so before you have to upgrade its supercharger. But if you want a ridiculous amount of horsepower like 700+ then the Shelby is probably the cheaper route.
