I'm sure everybody here heard the cool news today. Ford is going to unveil the new Special Edition Mustang at the New York Auto Show later this month. All that's known right now is the engine is supposed to be a 5.4 liter V8, and the car's going to use the "Bullitt" name once again. Also heard thru the Grape vine of a GT500KR for 2008.

Anyone hear anything else?

So... a 2008 Bullit... I guess it might make sense for the 40-year anniversary.

On the NYIAS website, under "NY debuts", there are 2 "Ford Mustang Special Edition", but both show a picture of the Shelby GT-H:

The New York Auto Show is in April, 2007, not later this month.

 

The Ford President had a Press Conference today with information about the NY Auto Show. Said it will be the Answer to the New V8 Camaro.

 

oh yeah, that's another tiny detail to consider!

 

I'd love to see what their idea of an "answer" to the Camaro is, using the 5.4. There is no N/Aversion of that motor making 400HP, anywhere. Time to move on Ford.

 

hmm... this is real early speculation....

I personally expect to see the 2008 S/E and a Shelby Variant at the two major shows in '07.

HTT was quoted in a Toronto newspaper that they are investigating doing an "R" version of the Shelby... i'm guessing put on a diet of somekind, and maybe getting the Ford GT motor or something

Would make sense

And a Bullitt with the 5.4 would RULE :P

 

i knew that right after ordering my gt thre would be a special edition. if there is any more news coming, be sure to let the forums know, if needed i can still pull out of my order.

 

It has been speculated a Bullitt was around as a prototype according to some IMBOC forum posts, but no one has confirmed anything about an engine.

Man, if any of this is true, I might have to re-think my 2007 order too!

Well I guess I can stop scrambling around trying to find something to drive for a few months after my Mazda6 lease is up while waiting for my '08 Bullitt to be built.

 

An answer to the Camaro? I wasn't even aware Chevy was asking a question

 

They'll get an answer whether they want to hear it or not

 

Most likely they would show the 09 refresh next year in Detroit. I'm sure it will probably have something packing 400HP and IRS. If it doesn't then well it's back to the same old Camaro's beating us stock out of the box.

 

No offense, but somebody needs to check dates and facts before posting speculation that is already almost two months old.
