Dont care for the hood scoop on the new mustang - seen a couple and I wasnt impressed at all....

Another question Kevin, any idea if they are producing a limited number of Super charged 06 GTs? I read a rumor somewhere around here....

No supercharged GTs

However the more legit rumour...would be the dealership installed S/C with warranty from Ford Racing...
That was a rumour a while back....

Hopefully we'll hear in a couple months if thats true, and depending on price, you may have a BUNCH of people exploring that option (and output of course)

Mays vision of the new stang was not to have any tacked-on, non-functional pieces and with the exception of the spoiler, that is the case.

I wouldn't put a non-functional hood scoop on my hood. I always thought it was silly that the old gen had fake hood and side scoops (even if they did make it look more agressive).

Aren't the majority of spoilers (OEM and duck tail) on the trunks "non-functional"? People put those on for looks, hardly think that most of them have any affect on down force at all. I can't see much of a difference between decorative hood scoops and decorative trunk spoilers. Perhaps the same paradigm can be applied to the scoops as the spoilers.... that is to say a tall ricey spoiler looks very out of place on the stang. The same would hold true for a large gaudy hood scoop. But, perhaps a conservative scoop can add to the appeal of the hoodline. (Just being the devil's advocate , I still prefer the functional shaker). Just my 2 cents.....

I think knowing you could gain some positive #'s from a functional scoupe. Vs adding a spoiler or ducktail for looks is not comparing apples to apples.

note* Ive had a few drinks tonight

I understand the point, I was just playing the advocate. The difference is that a functional hood scoop will (generally) look good on the stang. Whereas a funcational spoiler generally does not (usually taller than the roof of the car) etc, yadda yadda. I definatley don't want to go down the road about the funcationality of stripes or window louvers or ......I'm just saying that a bolt on non-functional hood scoop has its place along with stripes and louvers and other "cosmetic" upgrades. If its your cup o tea, go for it. I'll stick with the shaker......

Which is why I don't have a spoiler. I agree though...if your going to get a hood scoop, get a real one. But hey...different strokes for different folks.

Mach1 would get a shaker, not a hoodscoop.

ANd while J Mays/HTT wouldn't want a fake scoop on the car,
I'm sure many people have asked about it. (even average joes who aren't stang nuts)

As an option (or part of a package) this at least gives those people the option to tack out their stang.

Nothing in the Parts Catalog to indicate it. Roush or Saleen is the only way I Know to get an as Built S/C.

Hey, what's all that other stuff that's labeled in the picture? It doesn't look like most of it has anything to do with the hood scoop.
It looks like all the other stuff labeled are things that go along with a hood diagram.

16826 - prop rod
16916 - hood release
16700 - hood latch
16796 - hinge

Thanks for the the update Kevin!

Too bad "functionality" is one of the first things to hit the floor when cost reductions and deflation are the word of the day.
EK

1 more thing for the GTO guys to make fun of. That is pretty pathetic that it does nothing. Why have it? Even if it just let air in like the GTO one...better then just being tacked on.

And as for the spoiler...i recall R&T testing a mustang in the late 90's that they took the spoiler off of and got an extra few mph out of it, top end.

How hard would it to be to 'make' it functional? Some cuts with a hole saw?

I wondered how long it would take before Ford started trying to "improve" the S197 with bolt on crap like scoops and flares? Now I know.

As Per Parts Cataloging this is Currently Listed for GT Only. It also Appers to be an OPTION, SO if you Like it Great If Not You can Leave it off. I will Reserve my Judgement Untill I see one in Person. Now A functional Shaker would have been The Ticket! But I guess Ford Will Tease us a Little Each Year. I saw an Orange 04 Mach on a Used Car Lot on my way home. Man that Shaker!!!!!!!!!!
