2006 v6 mustang with turbo from truck
im trying to get a cheap turbo for my 6 and was wondering if i could use a turbo from a 7.3L ford F250,if so what other parts would i need to complete the kit myself
There is quite a bit of work involved, hardest part would be making all the pipes. You can use almost any turbo, people use tractor turbos and really anything. You need to make and weld a flang on your exhaust where you will mount the turbo and then weld all the piping together, you'll obviouly need a wastegate/blowoff valve. You'll need to upgrade you're fuel system to handle the increased hp, larger injectors and fuel pumps. Once together you would need to get it dyno tuned. I'm sure I missed some stuff but there is a lot of work.
Turbo and cheap do not go together except from the factory, and even then...
So making one yourself is really... well... I'd just get a supercharger instead. And that ain't cheap either.

This is one of those ideas that sounds good at first, but like others have said fabricating all the pipes and connections to make it work will add up very fast. There are several kits out there, you may be able to get one without the actual turbo and save yourself some $, but it's still gonna cost quite a bit!
Like they said...it sounds good on paper. But after custom making all the plumbing and buying the other required parts, you'd probably be better off just getting a kit. There's a member here (I think his name is "forensicsteve") that seems to be pretty familiar with turbos. Maybe he'll chime in, or you can try sending him a message if you seriously wanna put together your own kit.
