Congratulations on #1000.

A $500 rebate is not enough. The dealers around me have more 06 - V6s sitting on their lots than they will possibly be able to sell between now and when the 07s arrive. And the dealers still have more 06 - V6s arriving so the lots will be full ov V6s for a long time.

It is not a good sign that the $500 rebate comes at the beginning of the peak Mustang selling season. Historically March, April, May & June are the biggest sales months for Mustangs, by a considerable amount.

$500 will not be enough to bost V6 sales by any significant amount. $2K in V6 rebates or 0% APR will be needed to clear them out.

Ford needs to make the V6 more attractive to customers. Ford has made some good progress for 07 with the new interior trim, factory Sirius, heated seats, power passenger seat, etc. Now what's needed is some V6 performance upgrades like the new 265 HP D35 V6 (or bump up the 4.0 HP), a 6 speed auto tranny and a V6 model with the full GT suspension including big brakes & traction lock rear end.

I guess that's better than nothing at all. I wouild like to see price drop, instead of Rebates. I still pay a 6% Sales Tax on the Rebate. Rant, I am sick of Taxes, just other reason I'm backing off from buying new vehicles so often.

The true significance of the $500 rebate is the ammunition it provides to buyers for negotiating with dealerships.

Gas has increased twice this week. My wife bought a used 2001 Prius (Toyota-speak for butt ugly car). I love it when we fill it up. It gets 44 in town. It's not Mustang, but for in town it's OK. Drop the price on V6s. It's looks like a '07s will be a 'bettter' car in the number of options - especially since you can know get the 17 inch machines wheel on the V6. Can't even imagine the Camaro getting under my skin like the Mustang. It's a great car.
