At least they designed the steel wheel/hub cap in such a way that it looks a lot like a wheel in that you can see the real brakes behind them.

I saw one of these on a lot yesterday and they are most definitely hub caps. I bent over to figure out what was going on because they looked like real aluminum wheels even up close (at least until you drive away and hit your first piece of road debris). If you feel behind each "blade" of the cover you'll find that there's a steel "blade" that matches it. So basically they are 5-spoke steel wheels underneath. Like someone said above, it's a clever design and very deceiving until you touch it.

They are in fact hubcaps. The "standard" Mustang is aimed at those who want one but don't want to spend the money for a deluxe or premium model. In fact most people who come in buying a Mustang simply want the look of the body. I've only had one customer who optioned for different wheels.

Anyone have a pic of the wheel without the hubcap?

Wow...they did a good job matching the steel up to the hub cap. Looks like a rim, even though all the text says different.

On the Standard package, do you lose more than the alloy rims compared to the Deluxe (i.e. power windows, power door locks, etc.)?

They are hubcaps.

I finally got a copy of the 2006 Brochure this morning from my dealer! Since there seems to be a lot of wheel questions on the board, I decided to scan the wheels from the brochure and attach them to this post.......enjoy

Looking at the 2006 brochure, the only difference I noticed between the Standard and the Deluxe are the wheels. The standard is set up to where you can barely get any of the available options. If you want to order a lot of optional equipment, you have to go up to the Deluxe be able to order them.

With the V6 Standard, you can not get these items as options, but can on the Deluxe....

Front-seat Side Airbags
Wheel Lock Kits
6-way Power Driver's Seat
Leather Trimmed Sport Bucket Seats
Exterior Sport Appearance Package
Interior Sport Appearance Package
Interior Upgrade Package
Red Interior Accent Package
Tape Stripe Delete Option

The only options you can have on the Standard are...
Automatic Transmission
ABS
Alarm
Shaker 500
Convertible Soft Boot

Those steel wheels/covers may be a good idea for any 05/06 owner who might want to have a set of winter wheels/tires for snowy and salty roads.

Okay, is it me, but does every '06 V6 look jacked up in the rear?

Almost every one I've seen is like this one, even the ones I saw at the dealer yesterday when I went to get my free tank of gas they owed me.

Oh, and not to stray off topic, they don't appeal to me but would be great if you're looking to buy something basic and equip with take-offs or the like.

5-spokes of steel all painted black. They are not the typical steel wheels you see that are pretty much solid save for the holes drilled all the way around. Without the plastic covers they would look nearly identical, only black.
