2006 mustang gt engine swap

Hey new to forums, have a 2006 mustang gt and some stuff broke off into the engine so I’m doing a swap. Found a engine with good miles but it’s for a 2007, I know ford changed some stuff in the later years for the s197 and I’m wondering if my swap is limited to 05-06 engines without having to change out the wiring harness and ECM and all that.
Thank you looking forward to many replies hopefully

Off the Top of My Head the Biggest change Was The Cooling System and Design of the Thermostat Location. I just woke up it's P.S.T. Time Here so I will wake Up Before Posting Much More. In the Past when on other Vehicles when Different Years were Used For replacement Usually if a Issue popped up it was Missing a Sensor or two on the Replacement Discovered at the Last Minute! DOH! Where Does this Extra Wire Go??? Just Saying! All for Now.

After a Smoke on the Poarch I got to thinking I will Just Look Up a Rebuilt Engine and See if they Show a Year Spread. These Guys Indicate the LONG BLOCK is Interchangeble from 2005-2008. That is the Basic Engine Less Bolt on Including Intake Manifold. So If That is Correct sounds Good! Seems to me Though The Valve Covers were different in that year Spread Somewhere! Anyhoo Looks Promising! I will stew on it awhile and if anything else comes to mind I will post!

Oh and when it comes down to install set them both side by side before install and look at EVERY SQUARE INCH! TOP TO BOTTOM!

Also if you Like Beer wait till After the Install!

Sorry about the delayed responses been busy researching all day, but I’ll definitely be back for sure. Hopefully I’ll have more knowledge about things then though since as of now everything I do is kinda me teaching myself and I’m only 19 so not a lot of experience but I’m confident about this swap and I’m sure I can do it

That's Great we Need the Young Guns to Keep Wrenching! Back in My Day it was Car Magazines, Shop Manuals & a Lot of Trial & Error. Our Cars were a Lot Less Complicated Though! Pat Yourself on the Back for Researching First and not Blindly Diving in.

Good Wrenching!

Ford changed something. 2005-06 show the same, but in 2007 up they changed the long block part number. Just checked Hollander and they too show 05=06 then 07 up the same. Rock Auto also shows 05-06 being one long block # and then again 07-10 use the second LB number.

Like you, I'd be betting that the block is drilled somewhere else, probably for the knock sensors like they did on the 5.4's. If you want to see some 1 year engines from Ford. 2004 5.4. 2005 5.4 and 2006-08 5.4 are all different. You can use the 06 up if you make sensor modifications etc. This was the start of the VCT's and of course they changed them over and over to get them right.
