Question 2006 gt self revving when cold?

I just bought my 2006 gt 5 speed about a week ago. I have noticed one thing when i start it up to go to work in the morning. If i just let it sit until it warms up it is totally normal and fine but it i try to drive it cold i notice that when ever i stop, the car revs it self up. it bounces the needle from about 750rpm to 2000 or even about 2500. I have been doing a little research and ive found that some cars have the computer set so the car will try to warm itself up but my gt is bouncing the needle about once every couple of seconds. it seems like it would be bad to rev an engine like that when its that cold in the morning. Also it is only revving itself when it is in neutral, clutch in or out. once i put it in gear or drop the clutch a little it seems to level out. Is this a problem or does it do that on purpose? Has anyone else noticed this?

Where do you live. Like what is cold to you. I have not noticed that on my 05 or 07 il look tomorrow morning. In my mind it makes sense that the car would want to warm it's self up. But at the same time it seems like a bad idea because if it's revving itself and you put it into gear when it revs itself up to 2k or more it is probably a pretty rough shift.

It's called surging, the car isn't "revving" to warm it self up. I will bet both of you have CAI's and it is just moving turbulent air across the MAF, but I don't know...just a guess.

I don't think it is normal. How many miles are on it?? Just wondering because your throttle body may need to be cleaned

Surging is a known issue on the 05-07. Clean the TB, MAF, and change out the fuel filter for starters.

thanks for all the feed back guys! i live in atlanta. it has been as low as 30 so far this year. it was about 50 this morning and i noticed it. my baby has 60,500 miles on her. I do not yet have a CAI on her but i am about to put one in (i cant decide between K&N or a Roush CAI). how would one go about cleaning the TB? could i do it on a Saturday afternoon? like i said i have only had it a week and have not yet had time to check out the exhaust but from what i know, it is bone stock minus the flomaster mufflers, if that helps diagnose at all haha.

neither on the cai http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...e_comparisons/

check you tube for cleaning instructions or search around here I know there was a thread a while back on how to. Basically remove it and spray the heck out of it with some TB cleaner from autozone or the like.

Here's a link for the thread on here about cleaning the TB, make sure you get cleaner specifically for the TB and MAF sensor cleaner. To clean the MAF sensor, just remove the two screws and carefully pull it out, then spray it down real good and let it air dry. When you put it back in, make sure you have the air flow arrow pointed towards the engine.

My '07 GT did the same thing, but only after I loaded a tune. Before I did that it ran fine. I have a feeling the tune messed something up.
