2006 GT with 47,000 miles...too risky?
Hey guys, I found a black on black 2006 GT Premium with 47,000 miles on it. It looks clean as hell and has very little rust (it's been in CA it's whole life). I think it's had 3 owners and no reported damage or incidents. The asking price is $19,000. I know the price is probably a little bit high, but is the mileage too high? How long can I expect it to stay in quality running condition as long as I take good care of it? Sorry for all of the questions lately. I've just been looking into getting a GT for so long and want to make sure I don't buy one and regret it for one reason or another. So what do you guys think?
You can get that car all day for $14,000.. That milage is more then fine. For that price you would be better off buying a brand new 2012 V6. I would do way more shopping around.
check the for sale area here.

I have no interest in a V6. Also absolutely no interest in ones that are modded. I'm fine with a modded exhaust or something basic like that, but I don't like the over the top tricked out look. I love the stock look. Thanks though.

That price would have been OK in 2009. Once the 2010's came out, prices plumeted. Besides, would you really pay $20K for a 6 year old car with 50K miles on it?
My car has 67k on it right now (also an '06). The only maintenance items I've had to do on it (besides regular mx items like oil changes, air filter, scheduled fluid flushes (brake, pwr steering, trans, antifreeze)) are spark plugs at 47k (interval is 100k on plugs but they have a tendancy to cement themselves into the head and can break off on the pre-2008 cars, so I tackled them early), brakes (rear ~50k, front ~60k), and ball joints (~60k).

Have prices gone up on used cars? Because 3 years ago I bought a used 2008 GT for $18,500. It only had 13,000 miles. It was a manual but a premium. Leather and heated seats. No mods. This sounds way to high or the miles. Also the fact there is a new model and a new engine out. That was not the case when I got mine. I agree with $14,000 being the max I would pay
The used market is definitely heated up, on all kinds of cars. And with the new Mustangs being so expensive (A V8 convertible is topping $40k) used ones are holding their value pretty good. I bought mine last summer for $16k ($17,500 after tax and license), but they were going for $19-20k at dealers (dealers will always be higher priced than what you can sell for private party for late model cars, just the way it is).
BTW, I bought my '06 last year with 46k miles on it, and I considered that fairly low miles for the year. 47k miles now isn't that many.

Less than 50k miles doesn't seem bad to me at all - that is one of the reasons the dealer pumped the price up a bit, I bet.
Picked up my '06 on Sept. 7, 2005. She has about 95k on the clock now. Routine maintenance done to the Ford service/maintenance list. Runs like a champ.

Lower than average miles for a 6-7 year old car, so that isn't an issue. The price is high, but if they can be talked down to $16-17k and it is exactly the car you're looking for, than it might be worth pursuing. You mention "very little rust", if it has any rust at all on it, walk away. Having had 3 owners would give me a little pause, but I wouldn't rule it out based on that alone. I'd agree that finding a stock unmolested one is the way to go (just check what you can to make sure this one was always stock, and not returned to stock to sell).
kelly blue book is always higher than you should actually pay same as nada. go to edmunds .com more realistic for what you should be able to buy. I would be concerned with that car having three owners, i would look for a one owner car and buy from him or her. Looks like it has the original tires that came with the car, if you are dead set on it they should come way down on price and would make them throw in new tires. Every time i talked to dealers about trading in a vehicle the first thing they say it needs tires.
