I thought I may have heard the California Speacil was going to be supercharged? And if its a Cali Speacil it probably going to have extra parts on it for the tough California emissions laws J/K

Cool. Thanks for sharing the info. I'll definitely be putting the 18" fanblades and intake cover on my '05 when they are available.

The originals were a cross between a GT and the Shelbys, hence the GT/CS on the scoops. Ford would be stupid to offer it as a V-6 option.

I thought the GT/CS stood for GT mustang, "C"alifornia "S"pecial.

Jonathon - that's REALLY sharp!! Looks like you have gone through a great deal of work to get it so clean and it looks pretty stock!! I remember back when I was a little guy checking out the late 60's California Specials.....was a great time to be a Mustang fan!!
[/quote]

Thanks, it's more modified than stock. It is an original California Special, original motor and trans, original 9" posi. The original color was Lime Green Metallic, but that's changed as you can see, now it's Grabber Blue (from the Boss 302's). The motor had 224,000 miles on it when we re-built it. I added a Shebly 4-barrell intake, Holley carb, headers, dual-Flowmasters, H-pipe, Hurst 4-speed, 3.55 gears, digital guages, custom black interior with blue "piping" in the seats to match the exterior, Shebly 10-spokes with BFG rubber, and a few other things.

It'll definitely go. I'm thinking about having my brother drive it so I can race it against my '05. It has approximately 325 HP and 3.55 gears. So I think it would be pretty close.

hmm California Special huh? i wonder if itl be offerd everywhere or just on the west coast?

I hear an "Arkansas Special" is supposed to be available in Oklahoma by the end of the model year.

An Arkansas Special??? Well, doggies... me and Maw might just have to sell a few old hogs and see about gett'n us one of them there Arky Specials!

I wonder if it'll have a place for a gun rack in the back winder? Shucks, I'd be as tickled as a possum eat'n saw briars if'n it just had one of them thar "bare foot" pedals for the gas.

Slap the dawg and spit on the fire... I do believe that's the best thing Ford's thunk up since the Tin Lizzy !

There was actually a HIGH COUNTRY SPECIAL sold in Colorado back in 68 if I am not mistaken FYI!

You are correct, Ford also made a High Country Special. It was essentially the same thing, but had different badging. The High Country Special was built '66-'68, while the California Special was only in '68.

Here is a link to a site I found that has some interesting info on the old "SE's".

http://pages.prodigy.net/d.hughmanick/specials.html

I also have attached a picture of a High Country Special and a California Special for comparison. One is a '66 High Country Special, then a '68 High Country Special, then a '68 California Special.

bullitt, nice Cal Special, I almost bought one a few years back to fix up but the owner backed out at the last minute, I always liked those things since they were new, I judge at Mustang shows and have seen some amazing examples!

Yea, there aren't too many around either. Ford only made about 4200 in '68. I'd love to see one with this new body style.

If any of you would like to see the "authority" on all that is the California Special or "GT/CS" go to www.californiaspecial.com
If anyone gets pics of the new one early like you guys did with the new G.T. 500 I'd love to see them

If you are referring to the gilette young guns commercial it was actually a 70 charger, but still a nice car
