2005 V6 P0456 Code
Have a 2005 v6 convertible with 97000 miles.
I have already replaced the original fuel pump with an Airtex aftermarket and after a year, the check engine light and P00456 code has reappeared. I changed the gas cap and had a smoke test without success.
Any suggestions on what to do next?
They are suggesting I put a Ford fuel pump in and Airtex says there is nothing wrong with their fuel pump.
I can't get the car inspected with this light on.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Terry

I doubt is fuel pump. This code only applies to EVAP directly. Try some of the suggestions below.

P0456 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (Very Small Leak)
Description:
This DTC sets when a fuel vapor leak from an opening as small as 0.508 mm (0.020 inch) is detected by the EVAP running loss monitor test.
Possible Causes:
Very small holes or cuts in the fuel vapor hoses/tubes
Loose fuel vapor hose or tube connections to the EVAP system components
EVAP system component seals leaking
How to diagnose
Check for a missing fuel filler cap or the integrity of the cap (if equipped). Verify the capless fuel tank filler pipe is sealed correctly (if equipped). Install and remove the supplemental fueling adapter five times in the capless fuel tank filler pipe to clear debris on the seal. Refer to the Owner Literature for the location of the supplemental fueling adapter in the vehicle. Check for loose or damaged vapor hoses. Visually inspect the EVAP canister inlet port, EVAP canister vent valve filter, and EVAP canister vent hose assembly for contamination or debris.
For Fiesta, there is a Job Aid available for EVAP System diagnosis.

I Have No Life
On another vehicle I have, got the very same code. (Grand Prix)
Cap is always easy to check, but I'd get a Ford oem one.
Aftermarket ones are crap.
I changed out the purge solenoid on the block, and vent canister by the filler neck.
The actual cause was a pinhole in the evap line near the brake lines at one of the brackets.
Any rust on those lines or the filler neck?
Do you have a tendency to overfill after the filler shutoff clicks?

2005 P0456 code
I'm sure I have over filled it but I'm also having problems resetting the code. Someone told me to pull the battery cable.
Any other suggestions and can you do it with out a diagnostic code meter.
Is there a source to advise what the path of the emissions hoses?
I did have a smoke test but will check to see if they did it right.
Thanks guys

mine had that twice a couple yrs ago, put a dab of vaseline on the gascap oring with a qtip, hasnt done it since- and cap spins on/off a lot smoother
I dont think a battery disconnect will clear codes, but think autozone can do it with their scanner... I had similar 'slow evap' on one of the other cars too, dont recall which, but small amount of lube on the cap oring took care of it too... as these cars age, hope the hoses hold up ok, a leaky hose anywhere could throw it.
