Good Day All,

I may have the good fortune of picking up a 2005 GT Convertible at a good price - loaded.

Having said that, I have been reading up on reported issues concerning the 2005-2006 models, as well as the convertibles.

I know 'verts are susceptible to leaks and noise. But, I test drove one, and the noise was very low and really not noticeable. A vert sounds great, but since I've never owned one, the potential for problems is a little worrisome.

The second issue is of course the infamous fuel tank problem. So many have reported problems with their fuel tank "puking" up gas or the level sensor reporting "Empty", when it really isn't that it has me a little leary of the new Mustang overall.

With respect to these two issues, what can you, current owners, share with me about your 2005-2006 GT 'vert? I suppose I should open this discussion up to those of you have that haven't had problems with either the top or the tank. Every car has issues, but surely there are some of you that haven't had trouble with either of these, and you have had your vert for over 1 year. I do realize that these forums represent a small percentage of the Mustang population.

Thanks so much,
RedGT (maybe!)

I have had no problems and love the vert. As an 05, it should still have most of the factory warranty so any of the known issues, should they arrive, should still be covered. Good luck and have fun.

Red GT, welcome to The Mustang Source forums. Hope you and your Mustang vert have many happy miles. My last three Mustangs have been ragtops and it's amazing how they have improved over the years. My new vert hasn't had any issues with the top at all. Just keep it clean (as I know you will).

I got my first vert in August '05.

There have been no problems with the car other than the occasional fuel fill-up problem which seems to only happen at stations with high-speed pumps.

After having the car for around six months, I find there is still little wind noise with the top up.

I would not trade my car for anything, well maybe for a Shelby Cobra...

As for the convertible top, unless you have had an older version of convertible, you won't appreciate how much better these 05/06's are. Being winter time, I almost forget that it's a convertible.

Fuel tank problem happened to me, twice, both times it was fixed free under warrenty, no questions asked.

Go for it!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I appreciate your willingness to share your experiences.

It's between these two:

2005 Red 'Vert GT with every option under the sun
2006 Vista Blue GT Coupe with most options (Note: I will have white racing stripes painted on it after the fact!)

Of course, the 2005 is a little more expensive, but I can get 0% for 36 months.

My local dealer isn't offering any incentives on the 2006's yet, but that could change.

Thanks again!

What would an 06 vert run you? Define "a little more expensive".

You might be able to find a dealer to sell you an 06 vert for x-plan or similar.

Go for the vert! I have an 05 vert, and love it! No problems with either the rag top or fueling.

Go with the 'vert. There's very, very little trade off in weight or chassis rigidity between the 'vert and the hardtop, and the convertible is just more fun.
