Given Ford is seeing such a high demand for the 2005 and sites like this show a huge interest in the car, could Ford be holding out on releasing pricing to see how much money they could squeeze out of consumers? Could they be playing number games right until the machines are in dealerships, figuring once pre-orders are delivered and buyers are drooling over them, any more price increases buyers won't care about?

Just a thought.

 

In my opinion...I think they have known for a while what the prices are gonna be, but I don't know why they are waiting to let us know.

 

What if, by some miracle (act of God or whatever) Ford saw all the interest and preorders, and decided to... wait for it... keep pricing the same or even lower it slightly? That would be awesome. Remember, a lower selling price doesn't neccessarily mean lower profits if you sell in higher quantities. Just a thought. I wish. B)

 

B) Anyone have some stats on preorders from years past, or indeed, this year? I know what my VIN is.... but it doesn't tell me how many other people are waiting patiently :bang: for their car to arrive....

 

somewhere on this board on heard that 50,000 were on preorder. pretty amazing since they said they're only making 180,000 this year.

i think the "year" refers to how many 2005 models vs 2004 year models etc

 

Fiscal year ends September 30.

So the '05 Fiscal year starts Oct. 1.

 

year = 2005's

 

Fiscal Years Can start/end whenever a company chooses. So for the 2005 Ford Mustang, it would be September 7th, unless we want to count the pre-job 1 cars. Either way, the question boils down to, how many 05 mustangs produced vs 04 mustangs etc.

 

The GT will MSRP just under 25k with no options/manual transmission. Figure a 1800 proffit from MSRP to invoice on base models, climbing to about 2500 on a loaded one. The V6 most likely will be about 19.5 MSRP base. Its just the options that are unknown.

 

Huge company, thousands of numbers, lot's of red tape. Most likely just a slow bureaucracy.

They have too. Why would they say that they are under $20/$25. Then come out later with a higher price. That would upset a lot of people.

Plus they have been building cars for a while. It is not hard to get a price nailed down after making so many of the mules and preproductions.

If they don't know what the price/cost is yet, then I have other worries about them.

As too, why they have not released it yet, I have no guess.

 

most prices given usually are qualified with 'base price', or 'prices starting at...'; which would fit within Erickson's claim of a $30,000 interior in a $20,000 car.

I'm sure if Ford/GM/DC could get away with pricing out a half-completed car and using those prices in ads and PR releases they would too.

It's the dangling cheese effect... of getting consumers in the door and hooked like a crack head on the idea of the new car, when suddenly all the options and surcharges and last minute price adjustments start piling up. I'm just curious if Ford - if the pre-orders are on the scale of 50,000 - is waiting to see how much more they can get for the machines, based on demand.

Ford would have at least until 27 Sep. to crunch numbers and see how they can work out the pricing. Up or down.

There is no way Ford is holding out to see how much they can charge. We all have a ballpark figure because Ford has been saying for a while now that the V6 and GT will be right under $20,000 and $25,000- respectively. Why Ford still hasn't come out with the official numbers, I have no clue. But I am certain that they know the prices and have known for a very long time, or they would have not led us all to believe that the car will be right at, or slightly above, the '04 prices. Maybe they are waiting until the 27th. That's my guess. But to even think, let alone speak, of Ford trying to hold off and get every dollar that they can- I mean, come on. Sure, maybe they can get a few dollars out of me and others who have known about the car, followed the car, had dreams about the car... you get the idea. But once pricing is out, and the general population sees the car, when people go shopping to buy a knew car and Ford has raised the prices significantly they aren't going to sell as many Mustangs. Ford knows this. They want to offer as much car as they can for as little money as they can. I think that's been the idea from the start.

I think it's the opposite, I feel the reason for the holdout is because the prices will be lower than everyone expects. They don't want to hurt the sales of the remainder of 2004s that are out there. The re-designed 2005 Corvette came in with a lower MSRP than the 2004. Not saying that will happen with the Mustang, just something to think about.

 

Corvette came down because of the production cost in the LS2 is lower than the LS1.

Could the price be cheaper...sure...but I would assume a little more.
