2005 mustang v6

Hey everyone, I just bought a 2005 mustang vs that was retired from my local police department at 128,000 miles still runs amazing I work at a Ken garff Ford dealership the mechanics said it's legit. What would you recommend I do first to ensure it'll last a long time. Never owned a sports car before let alone a mustang. I've heard do a full system flush change all fluids stuff like that but I want to hear the opinions of fellow mustang owners.

Usually 'cop cars' are beaten to death but your 6 cylinder version was probably not a patrol car and perhaps was used by a 'civilian' in the department. Every department is different so you would have to inquire further. I'm sure you could get an answer with very little effort. Ask for the garage that works on the police cars or ask any cop you might see along your travels. Just don't sneak up on him or bother him while running radar, etc... I certainly knew every car's purpose on my own department and how it was used, even the undercover cars. If your '05 was just utilized in a non-patrol function you may have a decent car there. The maintenance was most likely done on a regular basis and most mechanical problems fixed. I agree with you about having every fluid replaced to put the maintenance on your own schedule, and not wonder when it was last done. Good luck with it!

Joshuabrown,

Congratulations and welcome to the family! NC07GTCS covered most of this here but you're definitely going to want to flush your fluids, have your Oil Filter and Fuel Filter swapped, and get a set of new spark plugs. We have a great Maintenance Guide on site to give a better idea of a few other parts that could be swapped but I would recommend trying to track down who was in charge of the fleet maintenance in your area as it's likely going to be well documented. Our Maintenance Section has most if not all of the parts needed to the car back to 100%.

Let me know if you have any questions and I hope this help!

I'd probably change hoses and belt too while you're at it.
