2005 Mustang GT used market...

Well guys, what do you think? What is a 'fair' price and what is a 'good' price to pay for a private party sale of an '05 GT? It's a little hard to figure out because not many people are selling them.

I've been pricing brand new 06 GT's and the best quotes are typically around 1,500 to 2,000 off MSRP. The most common trim packages are a Premium with IUP, so that price would be about $26K. Dealers seem to be pricing their used 05's for not much less than that. So if I buy from a dealer, it's worth the few extra bucks to get brand new. It looks like the only opportunity to save is to buy from private party. That leads me back to my original question; what should I pay for a used '05 that will make it worth not buying new? Thanks for your input.

My guess is dealers are selling them for way too high. There's a pontiac dealer by me and they have had an 05 vert on the lot since December 05 and its still there today!

I've searched autotrader.com for 05 Mustang GTs and your right, it's probably not much more to buy an new 06 GT, it's not just dealers either, same for private parties. V6s are more plentiful and reasonable.

The dealers around me are asking insane amounts for used 05 GT.
As a result they've had the same used 05 GTs sitting on their lots for many months.

I can order a new 07 GT for less than what some of these dealers are asking for used 05s.

You speak the truth. I can order an 07 on X-plan and dealers are crazy with pricing on 05's. The two private party ones that I checked out with 14K miles seem to be stuck on $23K. Even if I pay $22K isn't it worth it to get brand new for $6K more? But then there's the issue of less taxes for a private party sale. I know that (in Illinois) if the purchase price is under $15K, the tax is based on the year and its very cheap. What happens if over $15K?

I ordered my 06 on Xplan this past February. At the time it was considerably less than the few used 05's I found on the lots. Buy a new one!
