I am wondering if anyone is planning on buying a 2005 mustang gt used. I was looking at some 2003 mach 1's for sale and i found that most of them went for about $23000 with only 1-3 thousand miles. The MSRP of the 2005 was around $29000 so if the MSRP of the 2005 mustang gt is going to be around $25000 does this mean that in 06 i can buy an 05 for around 18-19 thousand??????

That will always be the case, whether you're talking Mustang or Lexus. I've gotten most of recent vehicles with 30-50K on them, but my first Camry had 515 miles on it and I got it for about 2K less than it would have been.

In this case, I'm doing what all the financial planners advise against - buying new. Part of the appeal is being one of the first to have the new model around town, I admit.

For what it's worth, my mechanic who collects vintage mustangs says he thinks the new model will hold it's value better than the last, so you might have to wait longer for a lower discount.

IMO: If you want a discount, look for a 2004 Roush covertable about September 1.

They only dropped that low because of the rebates they have on new ones. Mach's are actually $26k cars now because of that. I see a lot of 03's getting $22-23K, which is GREAT resale value(except for the first one's purchased without rebates). You want to see terrible first-year depreciation, buy a BMW.

What financial advisor goes against buying new? There is only one way to get a one-owner car. You dont buy cars to sell them. :bang: You cant take it with you. If it is something you are into or want, then by God reward yourself for you own hard work. Why work at all otherwise

If you need heavy discounts to afford a type of car, the type of car is too expensive for you. Every now and then I do have people that look at a window sticker and just say "thats fine, can you have it ready in an hour or so?".

Yeah buying used can be very much teh win. Having come to my senses I'm just going to get a 00' GT to hold me over until I graduate and figure out what I'm going to do with my life. By that point the s197 will be two to three years old, and I'll have something to show for the last three years other than the dept the 05 would have put me in.
That being said, whats a good mileage for a 00 GT' I want to spend about 10k and get the best deal possible, most of them seem to be about 50k and up?

99's have PI heads, and can be found with decent mileage under $11,000.

I sold my 00 with 60k miles and tons of mods for $11,000 bucks to a friend:

What are PI heads? It seems like no one bought them the first year (99) because I can't find them on any used car sight. I'm sure there are some, but 00's are far more common.

So between 50-80k is good then? For around 99'-02',

PI heads are a big reason there was such a jump in horsepower from '98 to '99. All '99-'04 GT's have them.

To excite some people in here,

logically, there will be A LOT of 2nd hand GT's in '07 with the new Cobra hitting the streets.

The Mach1 is a special edition car, hence it will hold its value better than a GT,which is a standard production car. Unless everybody buys a 6 except for Kevin, then I guess the GT wont depreciate much at all.
