Haven't decided on an automatic V6 or standard. Is there much difference between the two. Also, after reading some of the problems with the automatics, would these problems also prevail with the stick. Thanx, DB

That's a decision only you can make. Auto will bring better resale, especially on the v6, stick may be more fun depending on how/where you drive. Most driveline problems I've read about seem to be with the GT.

I'm sure if you ran a search, you'd find all kinds of threads of "stick vs auto". They all boil down to personal choice. Some like autos for the lack of messing with something, others like stick because they get to mess with something.

Reason go back and forth, but its up to your and your circumstances? Don't like sticks in rush hour? Bad knees? Can't drink/eat and drive? = Auto.

Like to be "in control"? Like the feel of the downshift at 70mph? Like the joy of manuals? = Stick.

Well I wanted a manual.....In a bad way. Circumstances forced my hand and I came home with an auto.........I love it. I didn't think I would enjoy it, and honestly I miss driving a stick, but I can't complain about the auto.

The auto is swift, handles well, the styling of the interior is great....No complaints here whatsoever.

Its really apples and oranges... I purchased a 5-speed since, to me, half the joy of driving is the feeling of being totally in touch with the vehicle. Both available trannies are pretty awesome.

Since this is still a first model year car, you've got to expect that there are still bugs to resolve. Don't base your decision on what others think may be the safer path. Both trannies have their pluses and minuses. If you want an 05, base it on what you want and what you can afford. After all, you're the one who has to pay for it and drive it.

For me I really would like to do the manual transmission but alas I do not know how to drive one. My friend however, is going to teach me out to drive on her Accord (brand-spankin new bless her soul, of course that also means a warranty to back up whatever I do to it ). So depending upon how well my manual driving lessons go will make my decisions on getting an auto or manual.

Don't sweat it Stadifer. Learning to drive a stick is not as hard as most people think. You'll be shifting in no time.

I have faith... The only really difficult thing as I understand it is getting the coordination down. Call it sad if you want but I've been going through the motions of releasing the gas and depressing the clutch in my Civic. I know all the shift points and when my automatic shifts so I'm trying to train myself to work the peddles. Of course it's no substitute for having a real clutch but at least I'm getting used to the idea of doing it.

Edit: If my sig ever changes from 5-Speed Auto to 5-Speed Manual we'll know that I feel confident with a stick. I did get to play with the clutch and shifter at the Portland Auto Show and the GT they had open. I also have pictures of a V6 Black Vert that I'll post when I'm off work this evening.

Test drove an auto GT as that’s all they had when I placed my order. Must say I got to 95~100 pretty fast on the freeway. But for me I know what I want in my garage.
