I recently saw a posting on carrol.net talking about valve problems on the new GT
engine. Has anyone heard anything? The three valve system seems to be working fine on the 5.4 liter trucks.

I just love how most people respond with BS and "not likely". How about a little tech to back it up, instead of commenting on things you know nothing about?

There is another thread here where someone says that there has been problems with the cam timing adjustment units on the 3V heads (including F-150). The person who posted it says the problem is occuring when customers put in oil other than the specified 5W20 oil. He says it's an oil starvation problem on startup so I assume the problem occurs if put put in thicker than recommended oil.

Wouldn't the variable timing take care of that? (pulling this one out of my... but sounds logic to me @ 00.30 am)

The 5.4 L cousin does not have that, so bad mixtures should be harder to deal with.

Are you trying to say the the person that started the rumour of the valve issue knew what he was talking about? Hows this for facts, or at least a comment. How is it possible there is an issue with FORD still building the cars. There has been no hold on production, shipping has started and people are driving around in their cars already. If there was a valve issue, production would have stopped, nothing would have been shipped and a lot of people would be sitting at home.

I have just over 300 miles on my 05 GT and have had a knocking noise under light acceleration between 2000 and 3000 RPM since new. I thought i would see if it went away as the car broke in but it doesnt seem to be getting any better. The knock mentioned above sounds very mechanical and doesnt sound at all like spark knock. I wonder if the previously mentioned valve problem could be what i am experiencing? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike Abney

You mean just like the person that started this thread? When they provide more detail than just "hey I heard this or heard that or I read this on the internet", maybe someone will respond with something other than "bs".
