2005 GT Exhaust setup
Guys, does it look like they only have one cat on each side? If that's the case, then hi-flo cats are out the question. You'll already have hi-flo cats. The only other thing would be o/r pipes unless you want larger dia. pipes.
Well True Blue,
I believe you are correct.
I just want an aftermarket H-Pipe and 40 Deltas
I wanted Flowmaster's American Thunder catback system, but now I don't think that will work or is even necessary.
The funny thing is though, that with the catback system is sounds differently than when just adding the mufflers. The catback has the same 40 delta series mufflers.

there's probably HP to be found in the manifolds and cats....i'd say with this better flowing engine than the current one, bet you can squeze out 15-20HP...

The manifolds are really good looking pieces but the best flow will still be achieved with equal-length tubular headers. This looks to be a difficult swap just as in the 96-04 4.6's. To fit in the longer headers the cats would likely need to be relocated complicating everything downstream.
A good cat-back exhaust will probably provide some great improvements anyways.

I was thinking bigger diameter headers, less restrictive cats, those are probably hiding quite a few HP....and torque too....
Not the same engine, but my 5.0 got close to 30HP gain with 1 5/8 headers, no cats, off-road h-pipe and dynomax Race Magnum mufflers....of course this is with ported heads , B-303 cam and Cobra valvetrain all over......just goes to show that there's always room for improvement over stock.....especially with this better breathing engine, it will respond a lot better than the 2 valve....

I just hope someone comes up with a side exhaust for it

If nobody offers any I'm sure I can get a custom system from Dr. Gas. My only concern is, how I'll cover those cutouts in the rear valance.

Has anybody noticed the set up on the model. I dont know if this is how the production stang'll be, but it looks to me that the Mufflers are banded on not welded or bolted. THat should make for an easy swap. Or if you are in Indiana or some other area without emision testing you could loose the mufflers and go with straight pipes. I have heard that the new stang is suposed to sound incredibly mean stock. But then again who buys a mustang to leave it stock? I'll be going straight pipe, (depending on sound of course).

Ford has made some pretty decent cats the last few years, and chances are these have good flow to them as well. I would think it a fairly simple chore to replace the h-pipe section with a good x-pipe, and swap out the mufflers - ought to see aftermarket mufflers pretty quickly. The cats may have to wait awhile, but again, that may not be a bad thing...

Those headers look great for stock, but you would definately see a gain with a set of tuned LTs

For one thing, it's not LEGAL to run without cats if the car came from the factory with 'em. That's why pipes without 'em are called off-road pipes. If you live in an area that requires emission testing, you'll have to keep them to pass the tests.
Other than that? No reason I can think of...

What about sound. Sometimes putting it larger, better flowing headers can change the exhaust note and make it higher pitched and raspier no?

ehem...you can keep your 'Y' pipe
I'll say ... get H's and X's

And guys, didn't someone say that they heard a rep at the 40th Anniv. say that the whole exhaust system is 2.5" mandrel bent? Unless you plan on putting 400+RWHP, going to a 3" system will rob you of backpressure
Personally, I'm happy it's set up that way - all I have to do is put on the Magnaflows and have an X-section put in place of the H and it's done.
