sorry if this sounds stupid but how do the center caps go on are they more durable than the spinners?
They just push on,you do not have to take your wheel off.Don't know about being more durable, i say yes as the caps dont stick out like the spinners to hit some thing.

I don't like the look of the center caps on the bullit, they don't match the color that well, I'm definitly gonna look into the tri-bar center caps. Those look sweet.

I am curious as to why those aren't standard on them, the only place you can find a blue oval on my car is the center caps of the wheels.

I found the Mustang caps at CheapFordParts.com and bought a set. They look like they will fit perfectly but I've got a problem - I can't get the original Ford caps off!!

They look like they'll just pop off but I can't find anything to get between the wheel and the cap to do the popping without damaging either the cap or the wheel.

How did you get yours off???

You have to go straight in from the side.

Danny, thank you for your help. I tried the 2 screwdrivers technique unsuccessfully and also tried two small knives as well but couldn’t get enough purchase without scratching the wheel hub.

However, some common sense and ingenuity finally set in while I was sitting there trying to decide to do next. I found that the Ford blue oval logo on the original caps is simply a glued-on, foil-backed decal. So I used my smallest knife (it was a paring knife before it migrated to the garage) and carefully pried the decal off.

Then I drilled a small hole in the center of the hubcap (under where the logo had been) and ran a 1-1/2†sheet metal screw about half way in. I then took a small hammer and wrapped the claw around the screw head and pulled. Voila, the cap popped off!!

I then inserted my new Mustang tri-bar cap and it looked great. It took about 20 minutes to figure all this out and do one cap. About 10 minutes later I’d done the 3 remaining caps. Then I cleaned up the centers of the old original caps and replaced the Ford logo decals.

I’ve restored several classic Mustangs so I’ve decided that I will keep all the original parts that come off the 2005 just in case it, too, becomes collectible in the future. So far that’s quite simple as all I’ve done is replace some small trim pieces.

Thanks again all. Here’s a picture of the finished product.

In case anyone is looking for tribar pony caps or spinners.... I just bought a set of caps (part # 5R3Z -1130-BA) from cheapfordparts.com for $51.45 after the shipping and handling charge. They have the spinners (part # 5R3Z -1130-AA) listed for $63.99 before shipping and handling. Thanks for the tip on the website ChrisM!

But they actually don't HAVE the spinners, don't know why they still list them on the website. (They cancelled my order, and stated it would be another 3 months)

That IS weird. I actually called them and spoke with someone. He told me they had them, asked me if wanted caps or spinners. He said they don't have them in stock, and it will take a week to get them in.
