I shift to 3, he is still in 2nd and long gone.................what the heck?!?
How could he still be in 2nd with you shifting to 3rd.

05 GT MTX 2nd gear 6000 RPM = 68.5 MPH
03 GT MTX 2nd gear 6000 RPM = 70 MPH

Sounds like you're afraid to use some RPMs, or he has some mods he didn't tell you about.
That also crossed my mind!

and ColoradoStang had him off the line!

Put it to you this way.

13.5 capable car, 14.5-15.0 capable driver (Colorado..this is not a knock)

Its just a new car, you don't want to brake it, gotta learn the car fowards and backwards.
Give it time man, you'll find out how to push her buttons and get her going....

I'm not upset about it. I know the car is new, I don't know it well yet...etc. Just wanted to tell you about it.

I think it was videotaped too... I will see if the guy that taped it is out next saturday.

I know that this post is worthless without videos!!!! nanners:

ColoradoStang, believe me, I enjoy reading your posts about going 120mph on the first night, and now about you having the 1st drag race. It's exciting to read about, but I can't help to worry that you really should back off a bit and get to know the car better before pushing it to the limits. You have plenty of highway ahead of you, that stuff can wait. I know this sounds like a father's advice. Well I just may be old enough to be in that category

I'll bet that the stang you raced may have been more juiced than he said,

Like others said, wait a bit until you get a feel for the car/the engine breaks in.

Hmmm..... 03 GT with only CAI kill a bone stock 05 GT with underated 300+hp? Doesn't sound right. He might have a few more mods than you think or maybe its just you? I'd say push yours to the limit, but don't get too daring. Afterall, you just got it. I'd say demand a rematch. Sounds like his is modded way more. Was he someone you knew or just some random person you pulled up on at a light?

Why not try racing a Mach1 if you get the chance? I'd love to see how the 05 stacks up to it. Wow! First real street race with an 05 and it lost... ....sad!
Noone I knew. I saw a few stangs on the side of the road pimped out and stopped to check it out. The guy I raced had a stang that looked trashed, all dented and stuff. Sounds like he was a player.
Yeah... It's not the ones that look fast that you should worry about, cuz the drivers wouldn't even let a fly touch their car.....It's the ones that look like crap that will give you a good scare. You ought to be careful...I remember racing a POS 95 prelude in with my cousin in his 98 cobra and losing. The car looked like crap, cuz it was like 5 different colors, had stock wheels, unpainted wing and a fart can, but turns out he had a B16 on juice.

He might have 3.90 or 4.10's and pulled a 2nd gear start on you and really was in 3rd

When I get to a certain point in the red, the computer kicks it down. Am I supposed to shift before it does this, or shift after/during it kicks it down?

I was shifting just before the computer kicked the RPM down.
New guy here. Great web site. It sounds like you were "bouncing" off the rev limiter which is not a great idea. Yeah in theory it helps prevent damage to your engine but it is not something you want to do with any regularity. It also will slow down your car by a ton when racing. How far did you guys race? If it was just through second, and into third I wouldn't worry to much about it. Short races like that can make it seem like your car is slower than it really is. An EVO/STI will get the jump on my 03 Cobra, but after 2nd gear I blow the doors off them, it is all about traction in that short of a race.

Sweet! It would probably be even-steven. I wonder though who will get a better lead, you or your bro, cuz I know the mach has 3.55 gears stock, but I don't know what gears are in the 05? Anywho.....I can't wait! Keep us posted.

All V6's have 3.31 gears (manuals & Auto's)
GT Auto's have 3.31
GT manuals have 3.55

as per the order guide

FYI... My 2000 gt, completly stock with BBK cold air induction and 70 mm throttle body ran 15.0 at Bandimere, with NOS 100HP dry kit, it ran 12.9 and you couldn't even see it with the hood open. Keep up the good work with the durability testing, Ford needs more drivers like you

Don't count the Mach 1 out just yet, we have an additional thousand rpm to play with before hitting the rev limiter. There are Mach's hitting 12's with just drag radials. There is nothing like winding a 32 valve v8 to 7 grand!
