And its going to be 3.8 liter right? My taures has 200 hp and its a 3.0.
So what gives??
Also my taures is a 02,so how come the 02 3 and 4 mustang v6s dont come with 200hp?????

The 05 is a 4.0L 202 hp engine, similar to the one found in the Ranger. Torque is 235 ft.-lbs. (maybe I'm adding 10?), and is a much more powerful engine than the Taurus 3.0. I believe the 3.0 produces 200 ft.-lbs. torque, and is developed for FWD vehicles. The 02-04 3.8/3.9 has 193 hp, so it's not far behind the new one.

The 3.0L Duratec in the Taurus is also a 24v engine whereas the 4.0L in the new Mustang is only a 12v (correct me if I'm wrong). Max power in the 3.0L comes in at a higher RPM than in the 4.0L which doesn't make it a great choice for the Mustang when most owners want off-the-line performance.
Don't get me wrong, the 3.0L Duratec is no slouch (I have an Escape with the 200HP version and a Mazda6 with the 220 HP version) but the 4.0L is more powerful and probably cheaper to make.

The 4.0L has tremendous potential in the aftermarket, especially the European DOHC heads will indeed bolt up.

The 3.0L duratec engine would have been much better for the base Mustang, smoother lighther more fuel efficient compared to the obsolete 4.0L truck engine that is being phased out.
I doubt that there would have been any significant performance differences, anyways the typical buyer of the V6 Mustang is not into drag racing...

I Have No Life
i figured it would be marketing and cost.
4.0 sounds better than 3.0
and then giving it the 3.5 Duratec Cyclone when it comes out with more power behind it.

I think it's funny that the Mustang V6 will be larger than the Thunderbird's V8.

How about the fact that our new Mustang GT has lower peak horsepower and torque than the last generation of F-body it made extinct.
Not that I'm complaining. I'd rather be around than rusting with the last of my kind.

The 4.0 is a fine engine. Much more aftermarket potential then the Duratec anyway.

I wish they had gone with the more advanced, more efficient V6 as well. Gas costs a fortune these days and the better mileage the 05 gets, the more likely people looking for a "daily driver" are going to buy one.

it wolda been kewl if they used the 4.0 DOHC inline 6 From the falcon 380Nm@3250rpm .182kw @ 5000rpm .I wish Ford would do the same with the Falcon & Mustang as GM did with the Monaro/GTO .That way u guys in The USA would have Falcons & us (Australia & NZ) would have mustangs! :bang:

The 4.0 is a fine, if aging motor, probably only a stopgap motor till the 3.5 Duratec comes on-line. Both the Duratec and 4.0 are equally powerfull, though the 4.0's greater torque gives it a bit more leverage at a more easily accessible rpm.
One way to think of hp and torque is that to think of a man pushing on a lever to lift a weight. The torque represents how long the lever is and the HP is how strong the man is. The hp is the ultimate amount of energy the engine is capable of delivering per unit of time to the car available to either accelerate it and/or overcome drag.

Heck the current V6 stang has more displacement that a Ferrari 360, but makes less than half the power. Makes almost as much torque though.
