18x7.5 Wheels / Tire Setup, btw I
sorry I’m constantly blowing up the forums, I have bought some 18x7.5 wheels recently and they are on a set of 225/25/R18 I believe and have mocked them up to find that the 25 is way to small of a side wall and I seen a 18” with a 35 sidewall and it fit the car perfect but as I begin to understand this, people say that the width affects the sidewall height because it’s a percentage of the width, what tire can I run that will look low profile enough but won’t be too skinny and will stick out past my stock rims so it’ll prevent from curb rash, and yes I know I went to a size smaller but it’s just temporary till I get another set of wheels as I’m going to be selling my stock 17” GT wheels btw I wanna run with anywhere from a 35 to a 45 side wall, so please include pics
UPDATE: I went to go inspect them and there actually 225/40/18, how come the sidewall looks so small compared to 275? Is it because of the percentage the sidewall takes off of the width, and also one of the wheels (I was already aware of this) has nasty wells on the back side because the rim was cracked, would I be able to grind them down without heating up the inside of the wheel and possibly exploding the wheel as I have heard some are filled with regular air and some are nitrogen?

not sure if this is a joke thread or what but I'll play along just for fun . . .
First, I think you should grind the wheels down to 16x5", then you can put on really small/narrow tires off of a Civic or something, and it will be better for drifting. Or, you could shrink the old tires with a hair dryer so they will fit the ground-down wheels. You could probably stance the crap out of it, with about 30 degrees of negative camber and still clear the wheel wells with tires that small and narrow.
The tire size codes are a test of your math skills and comprehension. The second number like "25" or "40" is called the "aspect ratio" and it is the sidewall height as a percentage of the tread width. Now fire up Excel and do the math and see if you can figure it out. Or you could cheat by using one of the on-line tire size calculators . . .
EDIT/PS: I am just having some fun with this, if those were serious questions I apologize for being an a$$ and giving you a hard time!

Well a 245 tire requires an 8" rim so I would say 225-235 should be the widest you run.
A 225/35 wil have a sidewall height of 3.1"
a 225/40 will have a sidewall height of 3.55" 225x40% or 225x.4 = 90 mm = 3.55"
a 275/40 will have a sidewall height of 4.33" 275x40% or 275x.4 = 110 mm = 4.33"

Thanks for the serious input guys and yes I know a few laughs and a couple of wtfs, I plan on getting a different setup soon and just wanted to test them out and they do fit but will need to lower and add some spacers to them, I’ll take pics tomorrow but my plan is to sell my OEM ones and get some XXR 527 white 18’s but hoping for 19’s. I also may end up getting another car as a backup daily due to my idling problem and for the near future 4.6 swap, I’m looking at a few Preludes and integra’s but am also considering 240sx’s but there a bit pricey
