After doing a bit of reasearch about the different SCT/Diablo dealers, I decided to go ahead and get an XCAL2 from Bamachips. I was abit skeptical that after reading all the positive feedback from those who had custom/mail order tunes (Bamachips, Alt Auto, Etc), thinking it could all just be hype. The results of a cutom tune couldnt possibly be That great.

The car flat out performs. Its different beast. Everything you've read on this board about the SCT tuner doug (bamachips) is correct.

Great to deal with, answers all your questions, and bottom line delivers a great product.

 

That is great to hear. I expect to be a satisifed customer come 4-4:30 on Saturday

 

I've known Doug a few years and he is as good as they come. If you like his "mail order tune" you should see what he does on the Dyno. We have a Dyno Day saturday in Trussville,AL, you should drop by.

I agree with you 100%. As I've said on this forum many times, in my opinion, Doug at BamaChips and his tunes just can't be beat. He's #1 !!!!

 

Hear Hear! I am a thrilled BamaChips customer as well ... sad to have to drop it back down to stock next week for a dealer service! What tune is eveyone using? I am on 89 Torque but am thinking of loading 93 Torque next ...

 

Doug had sent me a tune for my car almost a year ago... I believe I was one of the first auto's he tuned. I was pretty satisfied back then with the tunes he sent... I can only imagine how good his tunes are almost a year later with all the experience he has now on the '05 Mustang (especially the automatic since he owns an '05 GT auto himself) and also with SCT's new software. I should be getting my tune e-mailed to me today, and will give a report Monday after I test it this weekend. And I have to say, besides the good tunes and prices, Doug is about the nicest guy you'll ever deal with.

 

I am getting 93 octane. I'm guessing Doug will send me both a 93 torque and 93 performance tune. I'll probably load the 93 torque tune first. For everyone who has Doug's tunes, which one do you prefer, his torque or performance tune?

I'm not real sure exactly what the difference is between Doug's torque and performance tunes. I'm guessing the torguw tune gives you more low-end torque if you do a lot of stop and go driving, while the performance tune is for just all around performance. If Doug comes across this thread, maybe he can specify the differences.

 

I am new to al this as well and just wanted to make sure but he can do tunes for ya even if you already have a tuner from somewhere else right? Found a decent deal on a c&l and sct xcal2 but not sure about the shops tunes just cause I havent heard of them or seen their work yet.

 

Yes, I actually bought my XCal a long time ago (before I had even heard about bamachips) and DOug is making me a custom tune. You just need to go to his site and fill out the order form. Make sure to include your calibration code that is found written on a sticker attached to the side of your car's computer, under the hood. When you fill out the order form, just write down that you only want a custom tune.

 

I had the same question so I asked Doug. Here's what he said: "The Torque and Performance programs differ in the range they are aimed at for making power. The Torque is more of a daily driver program that focuses in on the 1500-3500 rpm's band. In order to do so well in that range though it does give up a few HP up top and this is why I break it apart from my Performance adjustments. The Performance program is aimed at more of a 3000rpm and up rpm band focusing in more on the top end horsepower and all out performance driving. This is a great track tune but also works well daily driven. Any of my programs are safe to use for daily driving unless you request a race only tune."

 

Thanks for the info, Nick. I think I'll personally go with the torque tune, simply because I do almost all of my driving in the city now, and want the low-end torque for all the stop and go driving.

 

You guys have been answering all my questions. Now i know the difference between torque and performance tunes. I know exactly what i want when i order it now.

 

he puts both tunes as 2 of the 3 provided if you want. I have both but only use the 93torque.

I had him send me four tunes with my X2... one perf and one torq for each of my two different sets of rear tires (275/50-17 Nittos on the street and 275/40-17 drag radials at the track).

I generally run the street torq tune around town. I love the way it will kick the assend of the car out on the 1-2 shift, and chirp the 2-3 shift (auto trans, btw). I'm going to the track tomorrow and I will be testing the DR tunes to see which one works best.

 

And yet another very satisfied BamaChips customer. I'm running the 93 torque tune and couldn't be happier. Just to echo what everyone else here has already said....you won't find a nicer, more knowledgeable guy than Doug!

 

I got my tune from Doug this morning and will load it tonight and try it on on the drive to work tomorrow. I'll let everyone know here... but from the sound of everyone's posts... I will be more than happy.

 

Nice results for an auto. I run the 93 torque tune all the time and love chirping the 1-2 shift. But for some reason, have a real hard time chirping the 2-3 shift. Dunno why?
