I'm thinking it's probably closer to 120,000.

Ford doesn't break down sales by Model year..only by Calander year...at the end of December 2005, they sold nearly 161K Mustangs. As of this year, Ford sold 87K Mustangs, roughly 9% less then last year at the same time.

There was a post that linked to sale figures for the Mustang on here before. Does anyone know if the June 06 sales units has been added to it?

Actually this isn't exactly true. For example...

Q. How many Mustangs were made in 1995?

A. 86,379 Coupes; 18,593 Convertibles; 47,088 GT Coupes; 16,668 GT Convertibles; 6,370 GTS Coupes; 4,005 Cobra Coupes; 1003 Cobra Convertibles; 250 Cobra “R†Coupes
I get these numbers from a club member who has a Mustang fact book. I am sure the writer's got the info from Ford.

I know the Cobra numbers are correct because I got those numbers years ago from SVT.

They do keep track of the numbers. Thats how they can kind of plan what they will need in the way of parts for the next year among other reasons.

The thing is that yes they do keep track of the numbers, but it takes at least 6-8 months after 06's stop selling before they can give out solid numbers broken down by Model Year and not Calendar year. I was giving out Calendar year break downs, June 05 vs June 06 sales, not 06MY Sales vs 05MY Sales. 06 production just stopped about 3-4 months ago.

Why does it take Ford so long to get production certificates out to SVT owners? I know I had to wait about year to get mine.

you can try this number. I used it to find out how many 2000 were built. If I remember correctly it was 180k built of which about 14k were gt's

They don't begin to send them out until production is complete for that year. When I purchased my Lightning it was one of the last ones produced for 2003. Took about 3 weeks and I had my cert, where other people had waited about a year. The certs. state what number out of how many produced, for example my Lightning was 4241 of 4270.

The reason they wait until production ends is they don't know just how many they will end up making. They may set a goal but usually will make some less or more depending on the market and how many left over parts they may have.

Just an FYI: We're mixing 2 subjects here in this thread. Sales and production #s.

Ford made (160,412) 2005 mustangs.

In the 2005 calender year, Ford sold 160,975. This number includes 2004, 2005, and 2006 mustangs sold between 1 Jan 05 and 31 Dec 05.
