Ok, sorry for the delay, but got called into work.
Some questions they answered straight out, most they danced around. Going to share them with you now.
Larry Erickson, the one signing the pictures and chief designer, along with his assistant I believe answered the questions. His assistant's name was Monty and a very nice guy, he talked with me for quite a while.
1. How does the Mustang engine compare to the LS2 and Hemi (both versions)?
They are all such new engines that they had not had a chance to compare them on the many different platforms they come on.
2. Dealer reps have mentioned a "stripe package", is this true?
Yes there will be a stripe package in the future, if not that there is always the aftermarket.
3. Will there be an SE in March?
Not likely, the vert will be out beginning of spring and March is a little early for an SE.
4. Is Ford considering to produce a Boss and Shelby in the next 3 to 4 years.
Definitely, with Shelby back together with Ford it is definitely one of the things we are working on.
5. How do the 1/4 mile times compare to the LS2/Hemi?
See question 1 BUT he did mention that the new GT is a second faster than the previous model.
6. Will we see the concept tail lights or ducktail on future Mustangs?
They are trying to figure out how to do the concept tail lights but they cut across the trunk area and are too bulky. They are currently trying out LED light versions for future Mustangs versions.
They both danced around the ducktail question and finally said maybe on a revised version... (maybe when the body changes again?)
7. 4.6L 3V engine for the Cobra or a new powerplant in the works?
Ok, what they said it was... 4V and another 2 inches raised to make room under the hood
What it is not ... No 5.4 or Cammer for the Cobra. The deck was too high to fit under even a slightly raised hood. i.e. the hood would have to be too tall for most consumers
8. Is Ford considering doing a lease wheel program or have some kind of trade up value for those that wanted the 18" but did not want to wait because of the delay? :bang:
No. (sorry guys)
9. Will they offer different color interiors for '06 etc?
"Hau Thai Tang has said 'You never want to wear all your good clothes at once.'"
i.e. there will be other color variations to come
Ok, we also overheard them say this Mustang will be in Houston on Friday. So those of you in the Houston area call the dealerships to find out which one.
Also, Monty mentioned the Autoweek article on the GT R and if you look closely you will see a thumbnail in that picture. That picture is of the Cobra they have been testing. Not sure if I have that mag or not but will check tomorrow. Too tired right now.
When I pressed about future SE's both Larry and Monty, at different times, mentioned the precut area under the hood and stated that should give you an idea.
Also when I talked to Monty about the Shelby he said they were "possibly" looking at making it a more ***** out race car without the refinements of the Cobra. Like the GT 500 of old a car that is more like a mini Cobra R and NOT a daily driver. Monty spoke more of it being a race car resembling some of what we saw on the GT R.
Sorry but couldn't get any really good pics because of the number of people around and the fact that it started to rain. Unfortunately that was the reasons Monty and I did not have a chance to talk even longer.
Good luck to you guys in Houston!

Thanks for you diligence in trying to find answers to some of the big questions MilStang! I'm a bit disappointed about the March being too early answer but the cutout on the hood comment has surfaced far to many times......some stang is going to have a hood scoop in the future. Question is....when?

I took several pictures with my digital camera.. well really it's my husband's and I'm currently waiting for him to get the pictures off the camera so I can post them (I'm pretty clueless with toys like that). No new pictures really but I know that any pictures are good to see.
I was happy to see that this GT did have the IUP, but it did not have leather seats. I really wanted to feel the quality of the leather. It was sooo exciting to finally see an 05 in person!!
I was pretty proud when I was picking up a brochure thing and the salesguy told me they are now accepting orders for the 05... I got to say that mine's already ordered and that shut down his spiel!
Overall, well worth the drive down there! And my dad, who came with me, sounded like he wanted a torch red 05 to replace his 95 cobra!

Ok, let me clarify now that I have gotten some rest.
I know for over a year we have tossed around the "cut out portion of the hood." When I pressed them both at separate times about when the SE is coming out and what it would be they both mentioned the cut out. They left the impression that a Mach 1 would be the first SE out of the chute.
Monty mentioned that "if" they came out with say a GT 500 it would come out around the time of the Cobra.. maybe a little after.
He said only that March was a "little too soon", who is to say April, May, etc is not. He just said March was a little too soon and that the vert would be coming out then. I really think they were tap dancing around this one because they quickly changed the subject. Perhaps vert around March and an SE around summer? <--- pure speculation on my part there timewise.
He did say they had tried the 5.4 in the stang as a possibility for the Cobra but that the "big deck" took up a lot of space. Then he went into the spiel that they would use some parts from the 4.6 to help keep the cost down.

Darn,
I missed it by 3 days. I've been deployed since 31 May and am getting back to San Antonio 21 Aug.
Please let us know if there any other 05 showing in the SA area. I guess I will have to wait until the SA autoshow at the end of September.
