'05 more popular than '64 1/2?

I don't see the original Mustang as either of those. When the big block Mustangs came along later, I would say that was an evolution of the muscle car movement. Muscle cars were started by putting big engines in mid size cars, not small cars. The Mustang was considered a small car by 60's standards. [/b][/quote]

Aahh, ya beat me to it. Yes, the '64 GTO was the original muscle car.
As for the the pony cars, yes the Mustang was the first... (psst, that's why they call them "pony" cars) and yes it did start the pony car revolution. Because Mustang sales were so good, everybody jumped on the bandwagon and started creating their own version of the Mustang (most noticably our long lost rival, the Camaro... R.I.P.) because before April 17, 1964 there wasn't anything like the Mustang. So with such a "sudden or momentous change in (the) situation" I would say that was a revolution.
I agree the Mustang has more choices to compete with (foregin cars), but the idea about it being normal today to have more than one car would seemingly increase the sales of the '05.
BTW, I don't think the '05 will outsell the 64 1/2, not even close. I do think it will sell a LOT and will probably surprise the "outsiders" (non-Mustang worshipers)
