Just watched that episode - looks to me like another case of the sponsor who slaps the most $$$ on the producers gets their product showcased on a TV show. What an unusual mix of mods for the '05.... And, as was previously pointed out, they didn't even mention a tune. (Probably because Predator, et al refused to pay up.)

I thought it was dumb that they didn't keep the HC trap out. I also would have liked to see them put a supercharger since they are available.

It was still nice to see the 05 on the show, you could tell they liked it.

Um.. Isn't the GT suppose to have 300 HP? They said it only had 255 HP. I'm confused. Anyone know why the discrepancy? Does the GT in reality only have 255 horses? That's terribly dissapointing if that's true.

The engine puts out 300HP, but it loses a % from going through the drivetrain. It ends up amounting to around 255-265 to the rear wheels, which is what the dyno measures.

All car mfgr's report the horsepower measurement at the crank. Your motor produces 300 H.P.'s By the time the driveline cannibalizes (sp) some of the power, only 255 gets transferred to the rear wheels. 15% usually disappears, so we're right on track, don't fret.

Was that car an auto or manual? I thought it was cool they did the same mods I have except nitrous.

HP TV is crap. They have proved it once again. The show is nothing but a vehicle for product ads.

I think I wasted 15 minutes of a beautiful Saturday watching them put "bolt-ons" on the Mustang. I mean nitrous? I guess they only did things they didn't need the tuner for. I'm disappointed.

The Roush looks pretty though.

This episode wasn't the best but it was far from the worst. I was thorughly disappointed last week when they only did a camshaft swap on the SN95 yet talked about more mods. I wanted to see what more add ons would do for my car.

I must admit the Stangs were very nice though

I thought the episode was real weak. I mean, only showing the simplest of bolt-ons and then nitrous? They did mention the car already had gears prior to them touching it. I would have rather seen a supercharger and some tuning done to see what you can really get out of the stock engine, and do so safely for that matter. Maybe they'll do another episode later on.

Yeah, it was a little blah. The show on Speed Channel two weekends ago with those two guys doing bolt ons to an old S-10 was more interesting than this. And I actually watch HP TV every weekend.

I'm hoping the new shows they're working on are a little better and don't repeat every 3 weekends.

Yeah tell me about it - I almost crapped when they said something like $450 for the Flowmasters.

Geez, I paid $250 for my set...... they got HOSED.....

I'm pretty sure it was a manual - I think I saw a shift boot when Joe climbed in the car.

Understating hp? So the mods look better? 255 seems 10 short for a stick. :nono:

I agree with all of you. The show was quite dissapointing. I would have liked to see them do the dyno with and without the HP trap. I suppose they want to remain environmentally friendly to avoid conflict. Whats the point in putting in nitrous unless you drag race anyway? They should have done the tune after they put on the K&N and Flowmasters to see if it was advantageous for additional HP. Maybe they will do a turbo down the road when one of the aftermarket sponsors donate one. On a plus note they did say alot of nice things about the engineering of the car.

Question for all - The car was stock except for the 4.33 gears? Could that have affected the RWHP reading?

Yes, bigger gears (higher numerically) will affect dyno readings. My dyno tuner told me yesterday that my car with stock gears could easily read 290rwhp vs. the 283rwhp it put down yesterday. Even wider rear tires (which are heavier) can distort dyno readings. Then again, the TV show used a DynoJet which doesn't compensate for the weight of the car in its measurements the way a Mustang Dyno does.

The reason is that the difference in the speed of the tires between to different engine rpm's will be lower. For example you have the engine at 5000 rpms and go to 5050 rpms. The tires with 3.73 gears will go 13.4 rpm faster, with 4.33 they only go 11.5 rpm faster. This change in rpm is what the dyno uses to figure hp. The lower gears will get there faster but only spinning the weight of the wheels instaed of pushing the whole car skews the numbers.
