05 GT - Manual Tranny... 1-2 shift clunk
Hi guys,
Quick question.
I've noticed when driving, that when I shift from 1st to 2nd over 3000rpm, occasionally I get a noticable feel/noise of ... well... a quiet ... clunk or jerk...its not loud, but its noticeable.
It's not in the shifter, feels like its between the tranny/rear end.
This does NOT happen on the 1 - 2 shift when normal everyday shifting, (below 3000)
I just noticed it, doesn't mean it hasn't been doing it before...
but is it something anyone else gets? or is this a concern, and what could it be.
I drive the car spiritly but I do not race or run the car hard on an ongoing basis. And I always push the clutch to the floor.
Comments?!?!

I get this same sound occasionally. If I have revs well-matched, I can avoid it. I get on the 3-to-2 or the 1-to-2 shift, when releasing the clutch to be in 2nd gear.
Any ideas, anybody?

Could very well be...
Again... i'm kinda a moron... it could have been happening the whole time, I just didn't notice.... so of course you start hearing it and freaking out

Sounds like normal driveline lag. I have driven manuals all my life, this is one of the more finicky in that regard. One reason may be that it has a two piece driveshaft, while none of my other cars did.

Off topic, a little - just wondering what you mean by "driving spiritedly?" I'm new to the manual trans. thing, so I'm still getting used to shift points I think.
My understanding is that you're not doing any harm until you redline, but I also realize you don't drive around at 6250 all the time. Does it wear out the engine/tranny faster to drive around typically above 3000? 4000? 2500? Just wondering.

Driving spiritedly... means I am not quite driving it and shifting at 2000...
I shift more at 3000-4000 regularily... and i don't FLOOR it all the time, but I make the car work a bit
I mean, that is afterall..what its there for

I have the same clunk. The only way to get rid of it is to let the clutch out slower, im just afraid that over time im eating up my clutch.
In the book it say to change from 1 to 2 at 11mph from 2 to 3 at 21mph from 3 to 4 at 31 mph and 5 is for speeds above 40mph. I seem to get the noise most when I follow those guide lines. The book doesnt mention RPMs to shift at.
