Guy on stangnet said he talked to a designer and was told "the 05's are going to be close to a second faster than the current GT's hopefully".

The 14-year old (Born4speed) is the kid who said "oh yea well i talked someone who works at ford he said it is crap , it isn't as aerodynamic as the 99+ one", not the guy (streetstang03) who said he talked to a designer.

This same topic was discussed on one of TMS threads. A guy talked with some Ford guys and they stated the same. See the second page (about 1/3 down)

I'm no drag racing expert but I think the rule of thumb is that for every increase of 100HP or decrease of 100LBS of weight equals 1 sec improvement in the 1/4 mile. That being the case and we're seeing an official bump of 40HP over the 2004 GT and the weight virtually the same, I'd expect to see around a .4 sec improvement, maybe a .5 at best. If it's truly close to a full second improvement, then the 300HP is grossly underrated.

Great news, but I'll take it with a grain of salt. I also liked the statement that the Cobra will have well over 400 hp.
And born4spd should just buy himself a Prius in a few years.

Actually the chief designer, Larry Erickson, told me the same thing. See the 05 stang in San Antonio thread.
He stated to me and a few others at least 3 times that the new GT would be a second faster than the previous edition.
Actually I believe that guy was standing next to me at one point. I heard Mr. Erickson mention that the Cobra would be will over 400 as well. He stated that after the last Cobra they had to keep it up there and they were wanting to improve it drastically. Again, he mentioned them going after the ZO6 with the Cobra.

Carbon Fiber instead of the old Shelby fiberglass will take off some weight.

I have no doubt that Ford can stuff a 500 HP engine in the car but they have to get the car around 3100lbs and the price has to stay lower than the Z06 or it won't be much competition.
