What's a fair price?

My dad bid on this car, and we were the high bidder. Since we didn't meet the reserve, the owner e-mailed us and told us that she'd let us have the car for $9500. We felt that number was a bit high considering the fact that Kelly Blue Book says that car should be sold by a private party for $8500 .. with all the options.
Given the mileage and assuming the condition is good to very good, isn't $9,000 a fairer price? We offered her $9000.

Yeah .. that's what I thought. I know if we got it from a dealer it would go even higher. My dad is afraid that a Mustang is going to be a car that was "beat on" too .. so things aren't looking good.
It's frustrating for me because I've always wanted a Mustang (and a stick) and last year my parents got a Jaguar XJ6 instead (1996). It's a sweet car, don't get me wrong .. I just wanted something I could enjoy the exhaust note on and cruise in.

I would pass on it personally. There are better deals out there as the market is flooded right now. Plus 1999 is not my favoirite year. It was the first year of the freshening and all those changes did not really smooth out until 2001.
I would keep looking-you will find something good.

Adam,
I paid 10k for my 99 but then again it was lower mileage and an automatic 35th anniversary fully loaded. And I bought it at a dealer. $9000 is a very fair price, if she doesn't want to take it thats her loss. Keep looking around. Good luck
IMO 99 is a great year. If you can find a true 35th anniversary edition you would love it. Yes Mustangs do get beat and you need to definetley have a mechanic look them over before buying. I was lucky and the mechanic said mine was babied to the extreme. They are out there. Keep looking!

I agree with Black 35th, 1999 was a good year period. Especially when you add in the "Limited" GT. All the styling features(plus more) of the 01+ GTs, but two years earlier. As for the one you have listed, all was okay until I saw the engine compartment. Its quite filthy and that says alot to me about how well a vehicle is maintained. So, my vote goes for $8000 no more.

Good observation Jason, I hadn't noticed that at first. Interesting! Plus it was driven by a woman!
Just kidding, I know I'm gonna get slack for that!

Better not let the wife see that post!!
Another thing to consider .. this car is in my state which means we won't have to pay shipping. Buying it from an individual is going to mean less money for it.
It didnt look that bad to me? Maybe I am just used to dirtier engines.
