I have not owned a Mustang since 1990 when I traded my 69 model to get a car I could take to college. Since then I bought an Accord in 98 and have it to this day and have never had a minute's worth of trouble out of it. That's with 125,000 miles on it with not even the slightest squeek, rattle or minor interior problem. My brother has a 98 Explorer with just under 100,000 on it and has had several issues. Other than spending about $1500 on mechanical stuff recently, he has some interior issues as well.

In considering an 05 Mustang, I was wondering if any of you who own recent Mustangs could chime in on the quality of car yours has been. I want to see if the troubles his Ford has had are more related to his particular vehicle or how he drives it than the quality in construction of Ford vehicles. Not just big mechanical problems either, what about little stuff like the light display for the stereo and climate controls, plastic parts breaking in the cockpit, etc.

Thanks for any responses. I'm in love with the new 05s!

These have been my issues with 10 Mustangs since 1982:
- 2000 GT: defective sensor
- 2001 Bullitt: headlights replaced (silent recall)
- 2003 Mach 1: cylinder head replaced (known 32v engines' problem)
- 2004 Cobra: leather peeling at edge of door panels; on order

Not a single problem with 6 others. If anything, the '05 quality should be a lot better. I would not hesitate getting one.

Thank you for alleviating my concerns. It's been a long time since I've owned an American car and I'm glad to hear reliability and quality are comparable with the foreign jobs.

Thanks guys.

Other than the usual wear items (brake pads, battery, tires, etc.) my '98 has had no problems. It has 97K miles now, and I just followed the normal maintenance routines and it has been a great car.

wear and tear? I beat on my car just about ever day. I launch it at the track at 6,000rpm on slicks and its held up fine so far. putting down 400rwhp or so on nitrous on a 120,000+ mile engine and its been great and never lets me down. Ford reliability is great. As far as build quality, you arnet paying for all the immaculant interior pieces and everything that you get with a german car of greater value. So Squeeks and rattles are expected, especially if you drive your car hard. I do think however hte 05 is going to be alot better with interior quality.
