I just test drove a 2001 cobra today. all i have to say is wow. its gentle enough to drive around town, but turns into a beast when u rev it up. unfortunatly i cant buy it b/c the insurance is too much for a 18 yo

That'd be a fun car to drive for sure, and yeah, the insurance would probably kill you on it. Have you actually priced it (insurance)? What was the range?

well i had the dealer call my insurance company, but for some reason NJ is wierd and they wouldnt give me a quote. The lady on the other end said "An 18 yo with a 2001 Cobra. ( ). She said probably close to 5000 a year". So I'm like screw that. I'll just get a GT when i go down to FL this summer

Hey gmnetwork:

I am an insurance agent CSR at Farmers Insurance and there is no way that it would be 5G's a year. I am sorry, but whoever you/FORD called and talked to was stupid and should be fired. I have insured 19yo and a few 18yo with Trans Ams and Camaro SS's and Mercedes CLK (rich punks) for less than 3600year. Yes, still alot, but no 5G's.

Let me ask you, are you going into this on your own or are you gonna be apart of a family ordeal? You the family will put you on the insurance but you have to pay it each month...?

Get back to me, cuz I would hate for you to loose out on something you have wanted

Abel

that was just under my name. im sure that if i got it under my mom's name it would be wayyy less. Another factor that affects it is that i live in NJ. if i can convince my mom to put it under her name. i'll get one in FL b/c i know the insurance will be wayyy cheaper down there

does the state you live in have that much of a difference in your insurance??? i could understand NY city or LA where there is so much congestion where accidents are everywhere. but wouldnt think other states would be much more

NJ is a little higher than Az and Colorado (where I have signed up the above people). However in just your name, you could prolly find one for about 4300 yr. Close 5000, but it is still a little cheaper. I went to the office yesterday and looked it up, it would be only 2245 a year down here!

$4300 a year is crazy. I think I'd go the GT route if it were much cheaper.

GT route for sure if it's a big difference. You could do some aftermarket mods to adjust for the horsepower.

5g's??? Man...and to think I was not happy when the insurance bill came for my GT...Then said 800 full coverage...that was a big bump up from my ranger....I live in CT....if that makes any difference...And for the record, my insurance didn't go up or down when I moved from NY to CT...But I wasn't in NYC propper...I was 10 miles north....

CT isn't a big factor really. It isn't too much of a higher risk than say NJ (don't ask me why, it's just what we have ben taught and know??!!). However, NY isnt' as a whole state, a high risk either...only the main cities and rural areas, such as NYC, Long Island, Harlem (lol, I wonder why?)

Today I checked on the GT, in your name alone:

1278$

with mom and decent driving record:

892$

Not bad of a choice...with the money saved on insurance alone, you could do some pretty nice mods!

Man, I would love $5000 a year. I just moved to colorado from RI and my insurance went up about $1400 yr to 8g's a year for me and my g/f driving the 03 mach 1 and my 04 impala SS. Ouch, I hate insurance. Thats why I have to sell my Mach 1...quickly. Gotta set up new policy on the 18th.
